How do i loose weight if i am 200 pounds male and a 13 year old?

Andrew

plz help!

Answer
Determine your daily calorie intake . Losing weight is simply a matter of expending more calories than you take in, through exercise and your daily activities. To win the battle, it helps to know how many calories you are consuming in a day.

* Write down all the things you eat on a typical day. Carry a small notebook with you and write down every snack, every drink, and the contents of every meal. There are also great websites that you can use to keep track of calories, get recipes, and help achieve your goal. Don't forget to include the pats of butter or the spoonful of sugar in your coffee. It's best to do this for at least a couple weekdays and a weekend; it's even better if you can go a full week. There are also calorie tracking websites that can help you to do this, for example the US government website, My Pyramid Tracker.
* Do an itemized calorie count. When possible, write down the number of calories in each thing you eat as you eat it. Keep in mind that the recommended serving size is often considerably smaller than the serving you actually eat. Look up the calorie count on the internet for foods that don't have calories listed on the container or for fast food meals. You don't have to be 100% accurate, but you do want a good estimate of the number of calories you're taking in. There is an idea that multiplying your own weight by ten will produce a rough estimate of the number of calories you need to eat per day to maintain your weight. This is NOT true, you may wind up grossly under (or perhaps over) estimating the number of calories you should be eating. Use a scientific or health website to determine the number of calories you should eat a day or consult your doctor. Everyone has different metabolisms and there is no blanket rule that covers everyone's recommended calorie intake. Reducing 500 calories per day from the calories you eat to maintain your weight can help you lose a pound of fat per week.[2]

# Go over the list and decide which foods to cut out or reduce. Cutting calories is usually a lot easier than you might think. For example, that daily tall latte in the morning may pack 500 calories. Since a pound of flab (lost or gained) is roughly equivalent to 3,500 calories, replacing that rich beverage with black coffee can help you lose a pound a week. Other easy cuts include salad dressing (salad dressing is the number one source of fat in the average American woman's diet) soda pop, candy, and butter. Look at the nutritional information for the foods you eat, pay special attention to your intake of saturated fats and empty calories (high-sugar foods). You don't need to cut these things out entirely, but if you reduce your intake of high-fat, high-calorie foods you'll lose weight faster.
# Seek out alternatives to the unhealthy foods you've identified. You can simply reduce the amount of soda you drink or mayonnaise you put on your sandwiches, or you can substitute healthier choices. Drink water instead of soda, for example, or use mustard instead of mayo. Low-fat and low-calorie options are also available for most foods, and many of these are natural, (although some are made with strange chemicals), and tasty. Start trying to eat healthy in most meals:

* Choose lean meats. Chicken and fish are both very low in fat (and certain fish like salmon, sardines, and fresh tuna are an excellent source of antioxidants, which are also beneficial to your health), so aim to replace some or all of the beef or pork in your diet with these foods.
* Replace high-calorie side dishes with healthier alternatives. Many people get a ton of calories from side dishes such as macaroni and cheese, French fries, or potato salad. You can eat healthier and lose weight by replacing these with fresh vegetables and salads. Pre-made salads are practically effortless, and when accompanied by a reduced-calorie dressing or no dressing at all, they're weight-loss gold.
* Start your days off right. A fattening breakfast of bacon and eggs or a pastry can be replaced with yogurt, oatmeal, high-fiber, low-sugar cereals; or fresh fruit for fruit smoothies. However, for those on a low carb diet bacon and eggs are a great combo for breakfast, since neither have carbs. But don't fall into the trap of skipping breakfast. Eating a healthy breakfast increases your rest metabolic rate earlier in the day, and reduces snacking before lunch.

# Plan your meals. Look for healthy, delicious meals online or in your cookbooks, and create a menu for the week. Make sure that your meal plan reduces your total calorie intake: you're not going to lose weight if you consume the same amount of calories by eating different foods. Make a list of what you'll need for these meals, and -- except for a few snacks, of course -- don't stray from your list when you get to the market. Planning your meals helps ensure you get a balanced diet and reduces the temptation to stop off for fast food or order a pizza. Remember, it's

Answer
You just have to take it one day at a time, and don't give up! It takes a while to lose weight, but in the end, it's worth it. Trust me, if losing weight was easy, we'd all be thin. You're going to have to be committed to this goal.

DO NOT starve yourself by going on a crash diet. It doesn't work, believe me! Sure, you lose weight, but not the weight you want. Your body eats at muscle mass and bone first. Your heart is a muscle, so by doing this, you can cause extreme damage. Then once you do actually eat something, it turns directly to FAT because your body is trying desperately to store excess calories & food for energy because it thinks that its starving - And you end up gaining everything you lost, and then some!

Try eating more fruits and veggies in place of other fatty meals, like junk food, cookies, or high calorie meals. Like most people (I'm guilty sometimes!), you've probably brainwashed yourself into thinking that fast food tastes better than healthy food, but that's not entirely true! Try eating MorningStar Garden Burgers, grapes, clemintines, apples chunks in vanilla yogurt (good for sweet cravings!), blueberries, hummus (it sounds gross but it's really not, you can make low-calorie wraps with whole-grain wraps), granola, low-fat yogurt, low-fat string cheese, light brand whole wheat bread, 100 - calorie popcorn / kettle corn bags, steamed broccoli with a buttery garlic sauce, microwavable veggies etc. I also snack on South Beach Diet oatmeal chocolate chip cookies, sugar-free puddings, sugar-free popsicles for chocolate cravings. Check out www.hungry-girl.com for awesome recipes!

And eat SLOWLY. Take one bite at a time, chew completely, then take another bite. If you eat slower, you'll become fuller quicker, and you won't overeat. Drink a glass of water before each meal - You'll feel fuller faster and won't overindulge. Try to spread your meals out so that you're eating 5-6 smaller meals throughout the day - It keeps your metabolism up to speed. Try bringing a sandwich or a bag or fruits with you to eat at work or in your locker between classes.

Incorporate more exercise into your daily life. Take the dog for a 20 minute walk, do jumping jacks while watching TV, do laps around the block, or the house for that matter. Don't let yourself sit down for too long. If you can, get a gym membership. I use an elliptical for 30 minutes 5-6 times a week and it works great for me.

And don't eat out of boredom! It's a nasty habit to break, TRUST ME. Whenever you feel like eating, watch a movie with no commercial breaks so you don't have time to get up, call a friend, read a book or magazine, or get out of the house, away from the food.

And don't "DIET". Because the moment you go off your "diet", you'll regain the all the weight you lost quickly, believe me. Instead, make "healthy living choices."

I recently lost weight, about 20 lbs, and what really helped for me was planning my meals. I planned when and what I was going to eat, and made sure the calorie count was 1400. For your height and weight, I'd recommend 1800 calories a day. But never go under 1200! Whatever you do, don't let yourself stray from your plan. Write it all down or type it out and leave it up on your computer so you don't forget, that's what I do.

You'll never get to your "ideal" body by eating crap food and sitting around, no matter how much you want it to happen. It takes dedication to get the body you want! Make it like a game. How much weight can I lose? Prove it to yourself you DO have the willpower to get what you want.

But allow yourself a cheat day every now and then. Life is too short! If you restrict your body of all the "good foods", you will one day EXPLODE and eat everything in sight. Trust me!

One more thing: Once you do become thinner, DON'T think you can eat whatever you want now! You'll regain all the weight back, which is absolutely mortifying, especially after all the hard work to lose it.

Good luck! Hope that helps (:

OH, and sitting up straight burns more calories than slouching. Try it!

Any more questions, email me (:

I'm trying to lose some weight before I go to Florida and Costa Rica in March/April. What are your favorite healthy recipes?

Answer
Pizza Panini

Prep time: 3 minutes
Cook time: 3 to 4 minutes
Yield: 4 servings

* 4 small Italian rolls or 1 loaf French bread cut into four 3-inch pieces
* 1/2 cup bottled pizza sauce
* 1 cup shredded mozzarella or a blend (such as Kraft 5-Cheese Italian)
* 1 cup frozen chopped broccoli, thawed, or 16 slices pepperoni
* 4 tsp grated parmesan cheese

1. Preheat indoor grill or grill pan. Split rolls in half. Spoon 2 tablespoons pizza sauce on half of each roll. Top each with 1/2 cup shredded mozzarella, 1/4 cup broccoli or 4 slices pepperoni, and 1 teaspoon parmesan cheese. Top with remaining bread.

2. Place sandwiches on grill, cover, and cook them for 4 minutes, until cheese is melted. Cool slightly and slice on diagonal. Serve with sliced yellow or red peppers.

Tip: You can also cook panini on a nonstick pan over medium-high heat. Place a smaller skillet on top of sandwich to flatten slightly. Cook 2 minutes, carefully flip, flatten, and cook 2 more minutes.

Per serving (with broccoli): 349 calories, 9 g fat (3 g saturated), 928 mg sodium, 11 mg cholesterol.

What is you all-time favorite sandwich recipe?

Q. Do you have a unique sandwich idea? I prefer healthy sandwiches (no bologna), but I'm getting bored with my usuals. What are some of your ideas to add variety to my lunch sandwiches? Different ideas for breads? ingredients? types of mustard? combinations of ingredients?

I already enjoy turkey w/ swiss, cheese, cranberry & stuffing ... another favorite is a good slice of baquette, w/ artichoke hearts, brie cheese, and toasted almonds, broiled til warm and gooey.
Wow, some great recipes so far! Things that have caught my eye are the olive spread and grilled vegies; the tofu; the Sharon sandwich; Calif chicken; tom, basil, mozzerella; and chicken w/ basil, etc.

I do enjoy PB& banana, I'll have to try w/ strawberry slices :-)

Tuna w/ BBQ sauce? what kind of bbq sauce?

Keep the ideas/recipes coming, and thanks!

Answer
grilled chicken breast
pesto sauce mixed with mayo
roasted red peppers
red onion, thinly sliced
provolone cheese
on herbed foccacia or ciabatta bread, or even in a pita

Then, if you have a grill (better yet, a panini grill), grill the completed sandwich until the cheese starts to melt and the bread gets crusty.

I think I have to get out of the food section. LoL. Drool =P

Is this sandwich recipe healthy?

Val

I'm just going to have it once or maybe twice a week.
I'm just asking.

I'll use whole wheat bread, boiled chicken, one tablespoon mayonnaise, raw tomatoes, cucumber and a little bit of mustard.
Also, if necessary, one low-fat cheese slice and a little bit of ketchup >w<

Answer
Cheese and mayo will be the most caloric thing on the sandwich. But we certainly need fat in our diet. In terms of being healthy the sandwich you describe is pretty healthy. It's low fat, high protein, good amount of fiber, low carbs. Good balance. Try grilling or baking the chicken for a little more flavor.

Healthy Vegatarian recipes?

Jane Doe.

Hey, does anyone know any good vegatarian recipes? Relatively easy to make, and something healthy. Anything with proteins and nutrients that vegatarians need. Also, do you know any foods that are good for vegatarians, like beans, eggs, and lentils? By the way, i'm 15, if that gives you a better idea of what i should eat.
Thank you. :)

Answer
I just made an awesome sandwich today which is super healthy AND delicious! It's inspired from a sandwich I ate at a really good Italian restaurant.

Grilled Portabella Mushroom Sandwich:

1 portabella mushroom cap, rinsed well and patted dry
1 jarred roasted red bell pepper
2 slices fresh mozzarella cheese
3 slices plum tomato (or any other ripe, red, juicy tomato)
1 tsp basil pesto
1 multi-grain baguette or roll

Marinate portabella mushroom in some olive oil, balsamic vinegar, salt, and black pepper for 10-15 minutes. Then grill the portabella mushroom for 5 minutes on each side or until tender. Place in sandwich bread and top with roasted bell peppers and sliced mozzarella. Put in toaster oven open faced until cheese melts. Then add sliced tomato, close, and enjoy! Yummy.

If you don't like mushrooms, you can substitute them for eggplants.

For eggs, I would recommend a veggie omelet. My favorite is a Spinach omelet. I just blanch some (about 1 1/2 cups raw) spinach, drain, and squeeze dry. Then crack two eggs in a bowl and add the spinach. You can also add some feta cheese as well if you like. Then heat up some olive oil in a pan (about 1-2 tbsp, just so the omelet doesn't stick) and add your egg mixture. Cook for about 3 minutes or until you can easily flip the omelet. Cook for an additional 30 seconds to 1 minute or until omelet is not runny. Serve with toasted whole-grain bread and you have a healthy delicious meal!

You can also make an easy vegetable sandwich with hummus. Just get some whole-grain pita bread, spread your favorite hummus inside, add some crumbled feta cheese, some sliced olives, cucumber, and tomato, and some romaine lettuce and you're done. This sandwich is the best to make when your in a hurry and don't have time to cook up a lunch.

For beans, you can buy a can of black beans and make a tex-mex (Mexican-inspired) salad. Just mix a 1/2 cup rinsed and drained canned black beans with chopped romaine lettuce, shredded cheddar cheese, chopped avocado, tomatoes, cucumber, red bell pepper, cooked corn kernels, and drizzle with lime-cilantro salad dressing (look for it in your grocery store or use this recipe: http://www.recipesource.com/side-dishes/dressings/00/rec0099.html). Toss to combine. Add some corn tortilla chips to it if you don't mind the extra fat and calories. =)

Hope this helped!

What are some healthy, delicious sandwich recipes?

Nick Saiz

Please put something healthy and unique, not just Peanut Butter and Jelly.

Answer
This is a great sandwich.........

Veggie and Cheese Bagel Sandwich...............

½ of a block Cream Cheese
2 whole (to 3) Green Onions
Tomatoes
Cucumbers
Avocado
Red Onion
1 whole Everything Bagel (or Any Kind Of Bagel)
Alfalfa Sprouts.....optional
1 Or 2 Slices Of Muenster Cheese
Slice Of Cheddar Cheese
Lettuce ...I use Romain..your choice...

Place ½ a block of cream cheese on a plate and mash it a bit with a fork. Next.. chop up 2-3 green onions and mix them with the cream cheese until thoroughly combined....
Slice all veggies (tomatoes, cucumbers, avocados, red onions) thinly.
Split the bagel. Then toast it. Then let it cool completely. Toasting it gives it the perfect crunch and flavor, and texture Toasting is optional of course....... Spread the cream cheese generously on both sides of the bagel.

Layer the vegetables. First lay the avocados right along the cream cheese to help them stay put. Next the alfalfa sprouts which are optional and then one slice of each kind of cheese. On the other half of the bagel arrange the cucumber slices in a circle. Sprinkle the cucumbers with a pinch of salt if you would like.
Next lay the onion slices on top of the cucumbers, then the tomatoes, followed by a slice of lettuce, and if youâre feeling naughty, another slice of Muenster cheese. LOL

Put the whole thing together and Voila A cool, crisp, and deliciously fabulous Veggie and Cheese Bagel Sandwich.

Enjoy..Its mouth watering...

These are all great answers!!! ill try them all. who can't get sick of a sandwhich????? i really like the idea of toasted bread. and i love tuna. mayb ill combine them all

Answer
Chicken salad sandwich

Sliced chicken by itself can be pretty plain, but chopped up into a salad tastes simply scrumptious. We always used cooked chicken leftover from yesterdays meal, which has been chopped in the blender. To the chopped chicken, add a little mayonnaise, some minced dill pickle, minced celery, chopped walnuts and a smidgeon of Dijon mustard. We serve up this winner on either whole wheat hoagie rolls or in a whole wheat wrap for a sandwich that's both healthy as it is tasty.

Ham and Potato sandwich

This crazy concoction has been a children's favorite for decades, at least at my elementary school! To make this silly sandwich, place a couple of thin slices of turkey ham on wheat bread, add a thin slice of American or cheddar cheese and a dollop of mayonnaise. Where does the potato come in? Include a container of five single potato chips which the children can add to their sandwich during lunch. The salty crunch of the chips against the sweetness of the ham is so tasty, they won't want to be trading this sandwich.

Peanut butter and jelly

Organic and natural peanut butters are high in nutrition and pack a lot of protein in a single serving. Since a peanut butter sandwich a la carte can be a little tough to eat , we always match it up with Mom's homemade low-sugar blackberry or strawberry jam for a sandwich that has the kids asking for extras.

Tuna Salad

Tuna salad gets a bad rap, but it's both low in calories and high in protein. The best tuna salad sandwich is a combination of low cal mayonnaise, minced celery, sweet pickle relish, a dash of sugar, and water packed tuna. To add some greens to your child's sandwich, stir in 1/2 of cup of chopped, fresh spinach.

Green eggs and hamwiches
Egg salad sandwiches were mainstay picnic fare when I was a kid, but aren't quite as popular as they once were. It's a shame too, because egg salad really is a healthy, low calorie, low cost sandwich ingredient.

To trick my kids into eating egg salad sandwiches, I turned them into Green Egg and Hamwiches. To make this silly recipe, use any basic egg salad recipe, but add a tablespoon of minced ham and a drop of green food coloring. If you really want to be sneaky, this is a great time to add alfalfa sprouts! The sandwich looks crazy but is so weird looking that your children can't help but gobble it down

Food for a picnic??? Help!?

Page

Me and my two best friends are going to have a small picnic at a local park. I want each of us to bring different foods. I was thinking I should bring fruit salad. Recipes? Other ideas? I would also like themes and decorative ideas! Thanks!!!

1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
1/4 teaspoon worcestershire sauce
1/8 teaspoon coarse ground black pepper
dash parsley
dash oregano
dash thyme
dash basil
1 tablespoon grated Romano cheese
1 tablespoon grated Parmesan cheese
2 tablespoons egg substitute
2 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
salt
pepper
6 cups romaine lettuce, chopped
1/4 cup red cabbage, shredded
1/4 cup carrot, shredded
4 pita breads
4 teaspoons shredded, fresh parmesan
Make the dressing by first dissolving the gelatin in the water.
Heat the mixture in the microwave on high for two minutes or
until it begins to rapidly boil. Add the vinegar, then whisk
while adding the oil. Add bell pepper, salt, garlic powder,
worcestershire, black pepper, parsley, oregano, thyme and basil.
Let dressing cool for about 15 minutes before adding cheeses and
egg substitute. Whisk until slightly thicker, then chill.
Overnight refrigeration makes the dressing thicker.
Preheat a barbecue or indoor grill to medium heat. Salt and
pepper the chicken, then grill it for 5 minutes per side, or
until done. Remove chicken from the grill and dice it.

Chicken Salad recipe?

Q. Looking for the healthiest chicken salad recipe.

Answer
Healthier Chicken Salad

Dressing:
1/2 cup non-fat plain yogurt
3 Tbsp mayonnaise
2 Tbsp whole-grain mustard
juice of one lemon wedge
2 Tbsp chopped fresh dill
2 Tbsp chopped chives
fresh parsley or tarragon, if you have it!
a dash of salt and pepper

4 skinless, boneless chicken breasts
1 apple, diced
1 small red onion, chopped
1/2 cup sliced green grapes
1/2 cup pecans, toasted and chopped
1/3 cup diced celery, if you have it

Bring a pot of water to a boil. Throw in a tablespoon of salt. Lower the temperature so that the water is barely simmering. It's what Julia Child calls a shiver stage. Add the chicken breasts, cover the pot and let the chicken poach for 10 minutes, maybe 15 depending on the size. Keep the water just at the point where it's beginning to boil and you'll have tender chicken.

Combine the diced fruit, onion, pecans and celery in a mixing bowl. In a seperate bowl, combine all the ingredients for the dressing. Dice the chicken and add to the bowl with the fruit and nuts. Add half of the dressing and toss to coat. Add more dressing as needed, but you might not have to use all of it depending on the amount of chicken you have. I didn't use it all.

Chill for several hours until cold, or make it a day ahead. Serve on some salad greens (spinach leaves are great!) or in a sandwich. Serves 4.

What should I eat to lose weight?

Q. I am working on losing 15 pounds in 5 weeks. My diet is less than 1200 calories per day. This is what I usually eat:
Breakfast: Peanut butter and jelly whole grain whole wheat sandwich with cup of tea.
Snack: Apple
Lunch: Original oatmeal with cup of tea.
Snack: Carrots
Dinner: Chapatis (tortillas) with sabji (vegetables) or daal (soup).

Please tell me what else I should eat. I AM A VEGETARIAN.

Answer
Oatmeal is great :) apples and carrots are great. Try drinking more water because sometimes when you think you're hungry you're actually thirsty.
Also if you want to lose weight faster, I recommend doing cardio- particularly running. That is definitely going to help.

The healthy way to lose weight:
-It's not about not eating, it's about eating smaller portions, more regularly.
-It's about eating HEALTHY foods such as here (http://shapemytorso.tumblr.com/tagged/fav)
-It's about running, getting some exercise- that's the quickest way to burn calories. This is the absolute most guaranteed way to lose weight. Run 1hr/day (you can break it up into 15 minute sections) every day for a month and you'll like approximately FIVE POUNDS, with exercise alone. So combining that with eating healthily you'll lose heaps!
-It's about getting enough sleep (which will also result from eating better)... because that's SO important to losing weight, stress can cause weight gain!
-It's about drinking a lot of water (about 1-2 litres/day and you'll see an improvement!)
I never believed you need to drink that much water either, I thought.. I'll drink when I'm thirsty. But I decided to try drinking more anyway and I've noticed a major improvement in my health.

If you need help- here's a really great site that will give you tips, facts, workouts, recipes etc- a complete guide to losing weight healthily.

This blog also has some vegetarian recipes too! (like vegetarian pasta, it's really great I made it the other night :)- http://shapemytorso.tumblr.com/post/35044407831/shapemytorso-health-blog )

Easy way for teen girl to loose weight?

Lil Redhoo

I have no free time to exercise because of school and finals, I have to plan a case for law and I'm the only one in my group doing anything and I have a 5 page study packet for bio and no book so I have to google everything for a class I'm failing. I want to loose weight for the last month of summer (summer school so it doesn't really matter for the beginning) and just to make it worse I can't make my own luch in the morning (not enough time) so I have to rely on cheap u-46 lunches. I tried the salads but half of the time they're frozen, the carrots are chewy and the fruit they keep is bruised and bitter. I need some ideas! We have a snack bar but with nothing healthy and the other day they gave out giftcards to the mc donalds across the street. ugh I'm sorry for complaining, and ik I didn't give you guys a lot to work with. But I do walk a mile to get home with a ( I just weighed it) 13lb bag so that's a good workout I guess. Is there anyway to make my school lunches healthier? I posted a blog on tumblr about them but I have to refind it because I signd out :P it'll be on here eventually.
Its called what-your-eating it has about a weeks worth of the normal school lunches we get

Answer
Hi there! I have a few suggestions for you :)

Try making meals at night for next day.

---Boil Chicken (organic if possible, get boneless, skinless breasts) at night for about 20/25 minutes (until not longer pink in center)

---Slice for eating plain (add lemon, pepper and perhaps a drizzle of olive oil for flavor)

---Pre- make salad at night.. Add chicken to that if you'd like

---Add Chicken to sandwich - use veggies to make yummy, add avocado for good fats, skip mayo

---Dice Chicken to make Chicken Salad for sandwiches (recipe below*)

---Pre-wash/cut veggies: Carrots, Celery, Cucumber, Zucchini, Radishes.. any Veggie you like. Put in container and take with you. (10 min)

The goal is to make food that last more than a day.. get a few days out of what you make.

The Healthy Life Chicken Salad Recipe*
Dice Chicken
Add: 1 Celery Stalk, about a tblspn of chopped Red Onion, 1 small pickle (diced) 1 tspn Dijon Mustard, 1/2 tspn Olive Oil. MIX (add any veggie you like)
Put on sandwich with avocado and lettuce, tomato and you'll be full until dinner.
If you don't want bread, mix with lettuce.

Drink plenty of water. Walking the mile each day is great!!
Stay away from soft drinks, processed foods and sugar the best you can.

Losing weight is a process. Be kind to yourself, your body and listen to what your body is telling you.

Best Wishes!

besides mayo, what would be a healthier alternative to add to TUNA SALAD sandwiches?

rowbee

would mustard work

Answer
Plain yogurt. You can substitute it for any mayo. And yes, mustard is great. I add that always! My typical recipe is tuna, mayo (or yogurt), garlic salt, celery, lemon juice, pickles, salt and pepper. YUM!

How to make delicious tuna?

Q. I have a 5 oz can of white albacore tuna and I'm wondering what's the best way to make it? How much mayo should I use, and anything else that I should throw in there? Salt and pepper, perhaps? I'd use some celery if I had some. I might eat it as a sandwich but I really just want to eat it by itself

Answer
Here are some great recipes:

Gourmet Tuna Salad

Here's a restaurant quality tuna recipe that is absolutely delicious for tuna salad sandwiches.

1 (7 ounce) can white tuna, drained & flaked
6 tablespoons mayonnaise or salad dressing
1 tablespoon Parmesan cheese
3 tablespoons sweet pickle relish
1/8 teaspoon dried minced onion flakes
1/4 teaspoon curry powder
1 tablespoon dried parsley
1 teaspoon dried dill weed
1 pinch garlic powder

In a medium bowl, stir together the tuna, mayonnaise, Parmesan cheese, & onion flakes. Add in the curry powder, parsley, dill weed & garlic powder.

Mix well & serve with crackers or as a sandwich.

=====================

Healthy Tuna Salad Sandwich

Canned Tuna (in water)
Sweet Relish
Celery
Onion
Dijon Mustard
Green Olives
Tomato
Salt
Pepper
Mescaline Lettuce
Cucumber
Parmesan Cheese
Low Calorie, High Fiber Bread

Canned tuna, which is kept in oil has significantly more fat than tuna canned in water. Be sure that you use the tuna canned in water, otherwise the healthy factor goes straight out the window. Also, the low calories, high fiber bread is easier to find then one would think. Search for breads in the bread aisle that have between 40 & 60 calories per slice. There are several national brands which now produce such breads. These breads also go hand & hand with having higher fiber content because they tend to use whole grains. Finally, each can of tuna produces 2 sandwiches.

Place your bread in the toaster oven. While obviously this is an optional step, crisp bread tends to hold the contents of this bread better than bread that has not been toasted.

Open the can of tuna & place the contents in the small strainer. Run the tuna under tap water. This will help alleviate any residual âfishy smellâ. Blot any excess water away from the tuna using a paper towel. Place the tuna in your small bowl. Chop one celery stalk, one slice of onion & three green olives (pitted) into a small enough size that they will mix well with the tuna.

Add the chopped celery, onion & green olives to the small mixing bowl. Spoon a small dollop of Dijon mustard into the mixing bowl. Sprinkle salt & pepper to taste. Stir the tuna, celery, onion, olives, salt, pepper, & mustard together until it is well mixed. Be sure tobreak up any large chunks of tuna that remain from the canning process. Remove & plate the bread from the toaster oven. Spread the tuna salad over the bread. (Remember one averaged sized can produces two sandwiches.) Slice pieces of tomato, cucumber & Parmesan thinly. Remember that there is a lot going on this tuna salad sandwich, so a few slices of each go a long way. Also, the Parmesan is merely for that wonderful nutty, acidic taste. The fat content of cheese is significant, so use it sparingly.

Layer the tomato, cucumber, & Parmesan on top of the tuna salad sandwich. Add a few pieces of lettuce & then cap with the final piece of bread. Voila, you have just completed the healthy tuna salad sandwich.

Not only will the total caloric value of the sandwich be less than 300 calories, it will also be packed with fiber & fresh vegetables. Pair this meal with a low calorie soup for a satisfying lunch or dinner.

A Variation on the Recipe:

Some people are not big fans of mustard. If this is the case, try using just the tiniest splash of olive oil instead. It will help bind your tuna salad with a heart healthy oil. Just remember that olive oil is loaded with fat, so a half tablespoon at most should be used for each average size can.

========================

Italian Tuna Salad

4 sun-dried tomatoes
1/4 red onion, minced
1 (12-ounce) can solid white albacore tuna in water, drained
1 rib celery, chopped
1/4 cup pitted nicoise olives
1 tablespoon capers, rinsed
2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
1 teaspoon finely grated lemon zest
Juice of 1/2 a lemon
2 tablespoons chopped fresh basil leaves
Kosher salt & freshly ground black pepper
Suggested serving: whole grain breads or bountiful greens

Cover the sun-dried tomatoes with hot water in a bowl. Set aside until soft, about 20 minutes, then drain, chop, & put in a medium bowl. To mellow the minced onion, soak it in cold water for 10 minutes, then drain it well, pat dry & add to the tomatoes.

Add the tuna, breaking it into large chunks, along with the celery, olives, & capers, & toss to combine. Add the olive oil, lemon zest & juice, & basil & toss again. Season, to taste, with salt & pepper. Serve cold, with bread or greens, if desired.

Sandwich recipes (reasonably simple, healthy, and priced)?

Lila.Bella

I poked around on the internet, but got overwhelmed and put off. Most recipes
1. call for gourmet ingredients only sold at Central Market
2. are unhealthy ("add 1/2c of mayo..."),
3. are complicated ("preheat the oven to 375 while you caramelize the onions...")
or 4. overdo the concept of 'cheap' (pb&j, bologna, etc)

I don't mind some prep work and spending - I just want things to be reasonable, you know? I want something tasty that I can throw together in <30min that won't make me fat, broke, or have a heart condition. Thanks! =)

Answer
grilled cheese- but with swiss and green apple slices

toasted turkey and thick bacon with fresh spinach, tomato and red onion

chicken or tuna salad...with spinach or lettuce

roast beef with whatever you like on it...

It's good and inexpensive to experiment with different kinds of mustard, vegetables, breads and meats. I Love alphalpha sprouts on almost anything and ciabatta bread...you can make wraps instead, it's easy to find some good flavored tortillas, and if sandwiches are boring you, switch to experimenting with salads for a week or so. Even fruit salad. You can also do a lot with yogurt...

Find a grocery store that has a great selection of vegetables at decent prices, where I am Fred Meyer has the best selection for the best price so I only buy from there. Wal-Mart always has bananas for 28 cents a pound, so I only buy them there....

I'll give you my Very favorite sandwich recipe that I made up and submitted to AllRecipes (I don't think they took that one though...I think there was a similar recipe they already had). It's not exactly what you are looking for, but it's great and you can make the stuff for it in larger quantities if you like it and just keep it in the fridge. The pesto sauce and artichoke/olive stuff can stay good in the fridge about a week.

Ingredients

* 1 package of Hoagie Style rolls
* 1 small jar black olives, sliced
* 2 cans artichokes, drained
* 1/2 cup crumbled feta cheese
* 3 tbsp olive oil
* sun-dried tomato spread
* 1 package of creamy pesto sauce
*

Directions

1. Prepare creamy pesto sauce according to package directions.
2. In a skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat.
3. Add drained artichokes and black olives to skillet, stirring often for about 15 minutes, while breaking up artichokes.
4. Pre-heat oven to 350.
5. Add the feta cheese to artichoke and olive mixture, heat an additional 5 minutes or until cheese is melted and mixed in.
6. Split and toast the hoagie rolls in the oven, about 5 minutes.
7. Spread the sun-dried tomato spread on the bottom side of the hoagie roll, layer a generous amount of the artichoke mixture on top of that, drizzle with about 2 tbsp of the creamy pesto sauce on top, add the top piece of the roll, and enjoy!

Healthy breakfast, lunch and dinner ideas?

Theycallme

I know the basics...chicken salads and veggies. Does anyone know of any quick, delicious, filling lunch ideas? For dinners something fairly quick as well....im trying to start eating healthier and feeding my family better. Were big on pastas but I hear too much pasta is bad for you but im lost aside from chicken and rice and veggies for dinner..I can't think of anything really healthy for lunch all I can think of is salad :/ which is not my favorite. For breakfast....fruit oatmeal or eggs is really all I can think of. Any ideas will be appreciated!

Answer
Here are some healthy meal ideas :)
- if possible go for natural/organic foods

~ Oatmeal - with oatmeal, you can try different healthy toppings to make it more fun
Topping ideas: almond or peanut butter, nuts, fresh berries/fruit, dried fruit like cherries/cranberries/blueberries/raisins, cinnamon, skim milk or non-dairy milk, nonfat greek yogurt/regular yogurt, natural jam, honey, agave nectar, etc.
* Non-dairy milk like almond, soy, rice or coconut milk.

~ Healthy cereal (like Kashi or Nature's Path organic, high fiber, not too high in sugar) with skim milk or non-dairy milk or greek/regular yogurt. You can top with fresh berries/fruit.

~ Greek yogurt paired with a fruit, nuts if you'd like, and a fresh fruit salad.
Fruit salad combination ideas:
- Strawberries, kiwi
- Watermelon, grapes, strawberries
- Banana, mango, pineapple
- Watermelon, honeydew melon, pineapple
- Raspberries, blueberries, strawberries, blackberries
- Apple or pear, strawberries

~ Homemade smoothie: using fruit/berries of your choice with skim milk or non-dairy milk with nonfat yogurt, you can also add 1 - 2 tbsp ground flax seed.

Lunch & Dinner ideas:

~ Sandwich.
On whole grain bread like multigrain, ezekiel, rye, whole wheat pita, whole grain tortilla, etc.
- Pesto, tomato, baby spinach & mozzarella melt
- Falafel & hummus
- Almond or Peanut butter & natural jam - nut butter with no added sugar
- Egg & cheese, egg white & spinach in a whole grain tortilla, with cheese like goat or cream cheese
- Chickpea wrap (with things like grated carrot, cherry tomatoes, cucumber, red onion, mixed baby greens, salad dressing, etc.)
- Grilled tofu or tempeh in wrap/sandwich - with things like tomato/cherry tomatoes, cucumber, salad greens, hummus or salad dressing, grated carrot, etc.
- Black bean wrap with salsa & some cheese; or a quesadilla on a whole grain tortilla
- Veggie burger
- Hummus, lettuce, grated carrot, sliced cherry tomatoes in a whole wheat pita half

For salad, since it isn't your favorite, you could try adding different things into it to make it tastier/healthier.

~ Salad: mixed baby greens, baby romaine, Italian salad mix, romaine lettuce, etc. with things like cherry tomatoes/tomato, cucumber, low-fat salad dressing or olive oil/vinegar, bell pepper, red onion, dried cranberries, goat or feta crumbles, walnut crumbles or almond slithers, grated carrot, etc.
* For more protein to the salad you can add things like:
- Chickpeas or any beans
- Grilled cubes of tofu or tempeh
- Salmon or Tuna
- Sliced hard boiled eggs

~ Vegetables like broccoli, carrot, zucchini, mushrooms, kale, red onion stir fried in olive oil with tofu, with wild/brown rice or whole grain noodles.

~ Omelets with baby spinach/cheese - you can use just egg whites sometimes to; eggs are great for protein try them boiled, poached, scrambled, etc...with healthy toast, salad, veggies, fruits, etc.

~ Whole grain or brown rice pasta with basil pesto, a little olive oil or tomato sauce + baby spinach or kale, any veggies if you want, goat cheese/cheese, with salad/veggies.
- Or a pasta salad with things like chickpeas or tofu, mozzarella or goat cheese, cherry tomatoes, veggies like zucchini, broccoli, baby spinach, grilled vegetables, etc.

~ Lentil or mixed bean salad.
You can add things like chopped bell pepper, cherry tomatoes/tomato, cucumber, grated carrot, veggies, salad dressing, etc.

~ Lentil vegetable soup

~ Whole wheat pita pizza or multigrain thin crust pizza, with tomato or pesto; baby spinach, mozzarella, grilled vegetables, etc.

~ Salmon or a veggie burger + wild/brown rice or sweet potato/potato or quinoa + veggies/salad.

I need a new healthy breakfast idea/alternative to my usual eggs?

Mandy

Every morning I have my black coffee and then I eat 2 sunny side up eggs on top of english muffins and I put cottage cheese on top of both of these open face sandwiches. I am a thinner 19 year old girl and I want to change up my breakfast! I do love eggs, but I also love cereal and greek yogurt. Any new egg recipes? Or other healthy/healthish breakfast ideas?

Answer
My top healthy breakfast is oatmeal. With a little drizzle of honey and milk. Another healthy egg recipe is make an omelet with cheese and spinach. Filling. Or boiled eggs is always good on hand too.

Healthy sandwich ideas?

I want to eat healthy, but when school comes its hard. So does anyone have healthy sandwich recipes?

Answer
I love avocado sandwiches! Slice some avocado, tomatoes, and onion put on bread sprinkle with garlic and pepper and that's it! Also eggless egg salad using crumbled tofu, vegan mayo, onions, mustard, relish, pepper, and whatever else you like. I like using tofu on sandwiches I get sprouted tofu which is already drained, etc and it's flavored and slice that up and put on sandwich with vegan mayo, lettuce, onion, tomato, avocado, sprinkle of pepper and garlic and you can add anything you like! Wraps are also great I throw in a bunch of veggies top with dressing and roll up!!

* 2 cans artichokes, drained
* 1/2 cup crumbled feta cheese
* 3 tbsp olive oil
* sun-dried tomato spread

What are some really healthy meal recipes/ideas?

I like to exercise and cook, but I need some more ideas what I can make through my day: breakfast, lunch or dinner recipe ideas.

Answer
wraps are easy and healthy. you can make them for any meal and put whatever you want inside.
there is also grilled chicken with any kind of salad
tuna salad (sandwich or crackers) only use a tiny bit of mayo and squeeze the juice from one lime in it.
any lean meat on the grill is healthy (if it's too cold, broil it), serve with steamed veggies.
chili or vegetable soup (not high up on the healthy list, but not too bad)
fresh fruit, boiled eggs and cheese are good
you could also keep some fresh veggies already cut and cleaned in the fridge to have as snacks with ranch or any other dip
