What Should I Bring In My Lunchbox?

I'm going to 7th grade and I want to lose weight. The lunches at our school are so fatty. I can skip lunch and go outside and get some chips and a coke, but that isn't healthy either. I was thinking about bringing a Special K Protein Shake, but I realize that I might give in to the food because it looks good and I'm hungry for FOOD. So what should I bring in my lunchbox?

Answer
I found this on internet, I'm sure this will help.
"Top tips for a healthy lunch box
⢠Always include fresh fruit and vegetables. Vary the selection to keep it interesting.
⢠Offer a variety of whole grain breads, rolls, pita bread and flat breads.
⢠Use avocado as a spread instead of butter or margarine.
⢠Use reduced fat dairy foods. Cheese and yoghurt are ideal.
⢠Kids need a serve of protein at lunchtime. Ensure you include lean meat, egg, peanut butter, chickpeas or tuna.
⢠Add a chilled bottle of water and limit juice.

Keep it fresh - packing the lunchbox
Itâs important to keep food in the lunch box cold to inhibit the growth of harmful bacteria.

Pack the school lunch in an insulated lunch box and include a small freezer brick or freeze a bottle of water and pop it into the lunchbox to keep food cool.

Helpful tips for adding fresh fruit and vegetables to lunch boxes
⢠Kids like fresh fruit cut and ready to eat. Fruit salad is the ideal lunch box solution; itâs colorful, easy to eat and bursting with vitamins.
⢠Offer different seasonal fruits each day for a change in flavor, color and texture.
⢠Freeze fruits in the summer or for sport days. Simply pop the frozen fruit into a small seal-able plastic bag or airtight container.
⢠If including whole fruit in the lunchbox, select fruit that is a suitable size for a child to easily hold in their hand and eat (this is particularly important for younger children).
⢠Peel and slice or cut fruit if possible and choose seedless varieties of grapes, watermelon and Imperial mandarins.
⢠If youâre added tomato to sandwiches, place the tomato between fillings and not directly onto the bread. This prevents the bread becoming soggy.
⢠When using avocado, mash or drizzle with a little lemon or lime juice to prevent the avocado from discoloring.
⢠Mild tasting and crunchy lettuce varieties like Iceberg and Oak leaf and Lebanese cucumbers are ideal for kids.
⢠Add leftover (or cook extra) roast pumpkin or sweet potato to sandwiches, wraps and roll fillings. Naturally sweet and loaded with beneficial antioxidants, roast vegetables team well with a range of fillings.
⢠Make salads or salad sandwich fillings interesting by using a range of vegetables like grated carrot, snow pea sprouts, lettuce or rocket or baby spinach, sliced celery, tomatoes, avocado and cucumber.
⢠Use a vegetable peeler to slice cucumber into thin ribbons for sandwich fillings.

Fresh for Kids have created a 5 Day Healthy Lunch Box Meal Plan and a Quick, Recess, Lunch and Snack Recipe Booklet which are free to download to give parents some fun and healthy ideas for their childrenâs school lunch boxes."

Answer
Turkey Club Sandwich
Serve this double-decker sandwich with carrot and celery sticks and red and green grapes. If you don't like Swiss cheese, substitute any other variety, such as cheddar cheese.

4 teaspoons fresh basil, chopped
12 slices sourdough bread, toasted
8 ounces turkey breast lunch meat
6 slices bacon, fried crisp
4 romaine lettuce leaves
8 slices tomato
4 slices Swiss cheese
In a small bowl, combine mayonnaise and basil. Spread 1 teaspoon of mixture on each slice of bread.

Place 1 slice of bread on plate. Top with 1 ounce turkey and 1 1/2 pieces of bacon. Add another lsice of bread, 1 ounce turkey, 1 lettuce leaf, 2 slices tomato and 1 piece of cheese. Top with last slice of bread. Place a toothpick in each half of sandwich and cut down the center. Serve immediately

Tuna Salad Sandwiches
For variety, add cucumber or tomato slices to each sandwich.
2 cans albacore tuna, in water, drained
½ cup celery, diced
½ cup apple, diced
1 teaspoon lemon juice
â cup fat free mayonnaise
4 lettuce leaves
8 slices whole wheat bread
In a small bowl, flake tuna with fork. Add celery, apple, lemon juice and mayonnaise. Stir well.

To serve, place 1 leaf of lettuce on a slice of bread. Top with 1/4 of tuna mixture, spread to edges and top with another slice of bread. Serve immediately.

Philly Steak Sandwich
Cheddar cheese is high in fat and calories, so limit the cheese to 2 tablespoons for each sandwich. For variety, use roast beef that has been rubbed with Italian seasonings.
1 bell pepper, thinly sliced
1 onion, thinly sliced
12 ounces lean roast beef, shaved thin
4 whole wheat buns
½ cup Cheddar cheese, shredded
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Coat a baking pan with cooking spray.

Spray frying pan with cooking spray. Over medium heat, saute the peppers and onions until they soften, about 3 - 5 minutes. Add the roast beef and saute for an additional 2 -3 minutes.

Place 1/4 of the roast beef mixture on each bun and place on baking pan. Top each with 2 tablespoons of cheese. Bake until cheese has melted, about 2 - 4 minutes. Serve immediately.

Mexican Roll Ups
A tasty alternative to sandwiches for a lunchbox or picnic. Roast beef, chopped tomatoes, bell pepper and seasonings are rolled in whole wheat tortillas and wrapped in tin foil. Easy to transport and neat to eat.
6 whole wheat tortillas
6 leaves romaine lettuce
1 ¼ pounds sliced roast beef
1 cup chopped tomatoes
1 cup chopped red bell pepper
2 tablespoons olive oil
3 tablespoons red wine vinegar
½ teaspoon ground cumin
For each roll up, tear off about a 15 inch piece of wax paper or aluminum foil. Place the tortilla on the paper or foil. Top with lettuce leaf, about 3 ounces of beef, divide tomatoes pepper, oil, vinegar and cumin evenly over all tortillas.

Begin rolling the paper or foil over the tortilla to encase the filling. Roll until the sandwich is completely rolled.

To eat, peel back the paper or foil

Ham and Egg Salad
1 ½ cups fully cooked ham, cubed
6 egg, hard boiled, chopped
½ cup celery, chopped
½ cup sweet pickle relish
½ cup mayonnaise
2 tablespoons honey mustard
Combine first 4 ingredients. Blend together mayo and mustard, add to ham mixture and toss lightly. Chill well before serving

Chicken Tostadas
Chicken breasts make a fine change of pace for tostada filling, along with tomatoes, lettuce and bell pepper. A garnish of salsa with fat free sour cream and grated cheese keep this dish a healthy one.
1 ½ pounds chicken breasts, cooked
3 cups romaine lettuce, torn into bite size pieces
½ cup bell pepper, chopped
½ cup chopped tomatoes
6 flour tortillas
6 tablespoons fat free sour cream
6 tablespoons salsa
6 tablespoons Cheddar cheese, grated
Heat tortillas by placing them in a large dry skillet over medium high heat, turn one until golden and puffy.

Place tortillas on plates, evenly distribute remaining ingredients over tops of toasted tortillas. Serve immediately.

Chicken Salad
3 - 4 cup cooked chicken, diced
1 cup celery, chopped fine
1 cup apple, peeled, cored and chopped fine
1 teaspoon salt
¼ teaspoon pepper
â teaspoon ground cayenne pepper

Starting in the fall, I will be in class from 9am to 4pm straight on a few days. I need ideas/recipes for lunches/snacks that I can make the night before and eat in class. A very important part of this is that these foods cannot be noisy or hard to eat so as to not disturb the rest of my class. Does anyone have any ideas?

Answer
-Soups
-Salads with carrots, cucumbers, onions, tomatos, olives, add chicken for protein!
-Sandwiches, like cold cuts, with lettuce, tomatoes, on rolls
-Wraps, use cold cuts like ham or even grilled chicken and lettuce, tomatos, on tortillas, and cut in half.
-cheese with fruits cut up and crackers
-fruit salad and sprinkle with lemon juice so it doesn't turn brown by the time you eat it. You won't taste the lemon!
-chicken fingers
-Any leftovers from the night before's dinner made into a sandwich. If you had a flank steak, add some argula and you have a great sandwich, have fried chicken, bring that, chicken cutlets, put that on bread with lettuce and tomatos and you have a great sandwich! You can always bring leftovers! If you made beef stew, keep it in a thermos like the soup and bring that, it's hearty and it's comfort food!
-pizza, you can bring a few slices with you.
-Egg salad in bowl or on a sandwich
-Tuna on a sandwich or tuna salad on sandwich or in a bowl
-Hard boiled eggs in a salad
-You can always bring like an antipasto, which is the cold cuts, some cheeses, lettuce, tomato, bread, etc, in a tupperware container with a fork, and just eat it as you please. Add some olives in it. It's VERY filling!
-Pasta salad

I hope some of these ideas help!

Answer
try this link, most of the recipes can be eaten hot or cold
http://www.fabulousfoods.com/features/brnbag/brnbag.html
Scotch Eggs
Serve hot or cold
6 hard boiled eggs
1 lb. spicy sausage meat
1/2 tsp. dried thyme
1/2 tsp. dried basil
1/2 C flour, divided
1 C breadcrumbs
1 tsp. salt
2 tsp. pepper
1 tsp. paprika
2 eggs, beaten

oil for frying
Makes 6 Eggs

Peel the eggs and set aside. Mix sausage and spices in a small bowl. Divide sausage into 6 equal portions, set aside. Mix breadcrumbs with salt, pepper and paprika, set aside.

Dry each egg with a paper towel, then roll lightly in flour to coat. Take one portion of sausage and using hands, shape a coating around the hard boiled egg, completely enclosing it (see photos). Roll in flour again, then dip in beaten egg then roll in breadcrumb mixture. Repeat with remaining eggs.

Heat about 2-3 inches of oil in a large skillet. Fry eggs, turning frequently, until golden brown on all sides. Drain on paper towels. Let cool slightly before serving. To serve, cut each in half and serve with some good mustard.

Veggie Tortilla Wraps
1 (9") flour tortilla
2 thin slices cheese (Monterey Jack or Swiss is good)
1/2 avocado, sliced thinly
1/3 C leftover grilled vegetables (like zucchini, mushrooms, onions, peppers, etc.)
1 large lettuce leaf
2 T balsamic vinaigrette dressing

Serves 1 (multiply by the number you are making)

Place lettuce leaf across the middle of the tortilla. Top with cheese, avocado and grilled vegetables. Sprinkle with dressing. Fold egg-roll style, tucking in sides as you roll.

Cilantro Tomato Pasta Salad
1 cucumber
1 C ripe red tomatoes, diced
1/2 C red onion, finely chopped
2 T fresh lime juice
1 T cilantro, chopped
1 tsp. granulated sugar
1/4 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. black pepper
1 C dry small shell pasta, cooked and drained
Serves 4

Peel the cucumber and cut in half lengthwise. Use a spoon to gently scrape away the seeds. Cut in half again lengthwise and dice the cucumber. Place cucumber, tomato, red onion, lime juice, cilantro, sugar, salt and pepper in a bowl with pasta. Toss gently. Transfer to a serving bowl; chill at least 15 minutes before serving.

What are some healthy, easy meals\snacks for breakfast, lunch and dinner that I can make at home?
10 points for the most ideas for all the meals\snacks!

Answer
Breakfast:

- Egg whites (better for you than the whole egg) with a little salt and pepper, maybe some cheese to add flavor, on wheat toast.
- Grapefruit (it's sooo healthy for you, it can be a snack too)
- Cottage Cheese Pancakes: http://www.wholefoodsmarket.com/recipes/351
- Oatmeal
- All fruit smoothie. Have non frozen fruit and add ice or use frozen fruit and add a little 100% fruit juice. You can make it a *healthy* milk shake by using low fat milk instead of juice and adding a little sugar (sugar isn't unhealthy in small amounts, but fake sugar like sweet and low and equal are bad for you)

Lunch/Dinner:

- Chicken breast with lemon pepper or other seasonings
- A spinach tortilla with chicken cooked in some bbq sauce. Add lots of lettuce and a little bit of light ranch (like a teaspoon, if even that).
- Salad- there are thousands of possible salads you can make but what I love doing is a bunch of lettuce, some spinach if you like that, salt, pepper, garlic (powder and only a small amount) and vegetables like tomatoes, cucumbers, or even carrots and peppers
- Taco Salad: brown some lean beef, drain any fat, add seasonings (McCormick has a taco seasoning packet for 50 cents). Make a bowl full of lettuce, tomatoes if you want, some beef, some cheese if you want, and tortilla chips if you want (less healthy version).
- Chicken in a bag- McCormick's has these awesome chicken bag seasonings where you throw chicken in the bag (they provide) with some carrots, potatoes, whatever you want, add the seasoning and bake for about an hour. One of my husbands favorites!
- Costco sells individual salmon fillets. Take one out of the fridge/freezer, season to your liking, throw on a pan, the grill, or in the oven and cook.
- a sandwich- between whole wheat bread slices, pita style, or wrapped up (spinach wraps are really delicious, or whole wheat wraps which I'm not a huge fan of).
- Make some quinoa or brown rice in a rice cooker or in a pot if you don't have one. Add some black beans, salt and pepper, and some mozzarella if it's still to bland. I like to add some sriracha (chili hot sauce) into the rice as it cooks and some garlic seasoning. It adds some kick and makes it taste really good without adding the sodium from cheese.

Snacks:
- peppers
- celery. If you hate it alone add some organic peanut butter (no preservatives) you can even go to many stores and grind your own peanuts into peanut butter.
- peas, green beans, cucumbers, tomatoes, other vegetables but not potatoes or corn.
- apples, pears, bananas, berries, grapefruit, and other fruits.
- some nuts or a homemade trail mix (raisins, peanuts, almonds, some dark chocolate chips, whatever else you want)

Dessert
- a small amount of dark chocolate is actually really good for you. The higher the cocoa content the better :) But only a small amount.

Those are my favorites but check out this site: http://www.lifehack.org/articles/lifehack/over-100-quick-and-easy-healthy-foods.html

for more options. There are an unlimited amount of healthy foods out there you just have to find what you like and stick with it :)

Ive got exams on from now until the end of June, so i need quick and easy ways to tone up without spending to much time and money, Preferably in the comfort of my own home :). Any exercise you would recommend ?

Answer
A great way to exercise is to put on a song you really like and dance. Go for a walk with your friends.

Here are a few quick tips I can give you:
-Drink cold water with ice
-Walk or bike to your destination. Good for you, and the environnement.
-Stay away from chips, ice cream, and chocolate, because those are things you often over eat
-Drink apple cider vinegar before each meal, that's how Fergie lost weight.
-Drink soup, one cup is only 50 calories, better than eating a MINI Kit-Kat bar.
-Snack on fruits and veges.
-50% of your diet should be fruits and veges.
-Say NO to diet pills.
-Eat 5 small meals instead of 3 big ones. Maybe half a sandwich and a glass of milk
-Have whole wheat over white
-Dark chocolate over milk chocolate
-When going to a resaturant, ask the waiter to put all the food you didn't eat in a bag so you can eat it for later
-When eating dessert, share half of it with someone
-When going somewhere, park your car farther to your location. So you can walk.

How can I lose weight faster?

T

I weigh over 240 and I wanted to know, how could I loose at least 90 before the end of next year. Any tips on how I can get very fit before my prom. Special diets. At home exercises, etc.

Answer
I did this and lost 40 lbs in just under 3 months:
Breakfast: Choose one

Fiber One Cereal: There are like 8 different choices on flavors, caramel, fruit, honey, raisen bran, original, ect. All very healthy for you and a great way to start off the day with minimal sugar and a boost of fiber. (1 full cup of cereal + milk is more than I can eat and it's less than 200 calories)

Thomas Whole Grain English Muffins: If you're in the mood for some warm bread, pop one into the toaster and spread some organic peanut butter, No sugar added jam, or I can't believe it's not butter for a warm and delicious breakfast pastry (Note: buy peanut butters in which the oil is at the top and you have to mix it in; avoid brands like Skippy or Jif.) (Each english muffin is 100 calories but be careful of toppings, they add up quickly)

Egg Beater/Egg Whites: You can buy cartons of egg beaters or egg whites in the store. they are delicious, you will not be able to tell the difference between them and regular eggs. Except for the fact that EB/EW cook faster and more easily than regular eggs with no beating the eggs or shells to clean up. Make an ommlete or scrambled eggs and throw in some chopped peppers, spinach, turkey bacon, or skim cheese.

For luches and dinners I recommend Clean Eating. It's a delicious way to Eat without lots of sodium, or artificial chemicals. I have lost 40lbs eating clean. And in over a year of cooking there meals, not ONCE have I been disappointed with the flavor of their recipies!

http://www.cleaneatingmag.com/Recipes.asâ¦

My fave's
Fish and Chips (because I'm from the UK, I grew up loving Fish and Chips and these are so delicious and when I eat them I feel like I'm back at The Laughing Halibut in London) http://www.cleaneatingmag.com/Recipes/Reâ¦
($1.79 for all materials, They come in at just under 300 calories)

Goat Cheese & Kalamata Paninis: These are so amazing I want one right now. The PERFECT lunch. One very filling sandwich is 300 calories
http://www.cleaneatingmag.com/Recipes/Reâ¦

Chocolate Chunk Banana Bread: I love making this, it's actually fun to cook and tastes so amazing!
http://www.cleaneatingmag.com/Recipes/Reâ¦
Makes a large loaf with 12 slices at 180 calories a slice.

Blueberry Strudel: Very reminiscent of a small sidewalk bakery I grew up by. This is without a doubt my favorite dessert. serves the recipe makes more than enough for 4 at 200 calories each.
http://www.cleaneatingmag.com/Recipes/Reâ¦

But, if you were to follow my advice, eating one of my breakfast options at about 300 calories, a clean lunch at about 300 calories, a dinner at about 300-400 calories, and a dessert at about 150, you ate 3 HUGE meals and a decadent dessert at a grand total of 1050-1150 calories a day.

The average male burns about 2400 calories in one day without working out (females is anywhere from 1600-2200 depending on many, many things; you guys are just.... complex =P, also keep in mind this is an average. If you are 6' 8'' 300 lbs you would burn more than average, If you were 4'8'' 100lbs, you would burn less.) A Pound is equal to 3500 calories. therefore without working out, you will lose a pound every 3 days. stick to the diet for a month and you are at 10 lbs, do it this fall: 30lbs. I dropped 40 lbs in 3 months (although I did run once or twice a week but nothing too intense, but that was negated by the fact that I cheated on days I ran by going to my local bakery and ordering all sorts of sweets for breakfast!)

Good luck with your weight loss

How to eat healthy if my mom only buys junk food?

StayTrueSt

I really want to start eating healthier...But my mom always buys junk food. Yes we do have healthier foods but not a lot... She always buys hot pockets, snack cakes, ice creams, pop, cookies, things to make cakes with, really sugary cereals...The only healthy things she buys are like a head of lettuce, apples or oranges sometimes, and some frozen veggies...I always try to just stick with wheat bread for my sandwiches at lunch and an apple or orange. But it's so tempting to just grab something un healthy when I'm hungry... And since the healthier foods don't last that long I have to eat the other stuff...How can I eat healthier when it's really tempting to just...not?

Answer
Ask your mom to buy healthier food. If she doesn't, then use the frozen veggie to make salads. Eat the fruits for snacks. Switch the recipes around with the salad so you don't get tired of it. If you run out of the healthier food, ask your dad to buy the healthy food. Not trying to be on the bad side but if they don't buy any, trade food with your friends. Lol.

California Grilled Veggie Sandwich

"I came up with this recipe to entertain friends. Since I am a semi-vegetarian and love to BBQ, I am always inventing something new. The first time I made this, my meat-lover friends raved about this dish! I prefer mesquite coals over gas barbeques...however, either works fine."

Original recipe yield: 4 servings.
Prep Time:30 MinutesCook Time:20 MinutesReady In:50 MinutesServings:4

INGREDIENTS:

1/4 cup mayonnaise
3 cloves garlic, minced
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1/8 cup olive oil
1 cup sliced red bell peppers
1 small zucchini, sliced
1 red onion, sliced
1 small yellow squash, sliced
2 (4-x6-inch) focaccia bread pieces, split horizontally
1/2 cup crumbled feta cheese

DIRECTIONS:

In a bowl, mix the mayonnaise, minced garlic, and lemon juice. Set aside in the refrigerator.
Preheat the grill for high heat.
Brush vegetables with olive oil on each side. Brush grate with oil. Place bell peppers and zucchini closest to the middle of the grill, and set onion and squash pieces around them. Cook for about 3 minutes, turn, and cook for another 3 minutes. The peppers may take a bit longer. Remove from grill, and set aside.
Spread some of the mayonnaise mixture on the cut sides of the bread, and sprinkle each one with feta cheese. Place on the grill cheese side up, and cover with lid for 2 to 3 minutes. How can i lose maximum amount of weight during the summer?

heart healthy sandwich recipes

heart healthy sandwich recipes image

HOWboutTHA

Alright, so im 16 going on 17. Im 5'1 and 138 lb. i REALLY need to lose weight this summer. Ill be working 5 days a week for 8 hours. I was planning on joining the gym and heading there before work starts. Also i want to buy a healthy dietary recipe book to cook with every day. What should i really do in order to lose the maximum amount of weight during the summer? i really want to shed at least 20 pounds of fat.

Answer
I would like to give you just a simple workout plan but it is not that easy to lose weight. It is going to take 3 important things. You need to look at the fundamentals and then build your plan on this foundation.

1. Exercise

2. Diet

3. Attitude / Motivation

I used to do fitness training when I was in college and I know exactly what it takes to lose those pounds.

1. Exercise. You must workout not less that 5 times per week. The best type exercise for losing weight is aerobic exercise. That means you have to get your heart rate up and breathing rate up. You should do a min. of (5) 30 minute aerobic activities per week.
*walking is good but keep up a very fast pace and pump your arms to increase the blood flow and burns more calories! Biking is also good. Treadmill is also good.

2. DIET: You have to watch your calorie intake. Simple formula says: If you eat More calories than you burn you will Gain weight. If you eat Less calories than you burn you will Lose weight.
Eat salads with fat free dressing. Eat lots of fresh foods, carrots, celery. Eat high protein low fat meats like chicken breast out the car. Go to the deli and get lean roast beef and turkey and make sandwiches. Eat rice with no butter and no rich sauces. Stay away from ALL fast food! All the exercising won't help if you don't watch what you fuel your body with.

3. Attitude is glue that binds this weight loss formula together. Losing weight is not easy. It takes discipline and a positive attitude. It is not easy to change your eating and activities habits but you must do it. You have to target your goal and stay on track. A positive attitude will keep you on course!

Football season is upon us! Any advice for low sodium snack foods?

michelle37

I'm looking for low-sodium, low-potassium versions of football snack favorites. I'm preparing these for a young man with severe heart problems and needs to limit his sodium intake to a very small amount. I don't want him to feel like he's missing out on everything he used to enjoy eating and doing, so i'm trying to keep game days as close to normal as possible. Any suggestions, recipes, tips, etc. would be greatly appreciated.

Answer
Processed meats, such as hot dogs etc., are high in sodium. You might want to consult with the dietitions of Whole Foods on this dilema. They have products that taste somewhat comprable, but are lower in sodium, fat, and sugar.
From a practical standpoint, making your own dips, french fries and meats for sandwiches might be a good idea. Have you considered AllRecipes.com in their heart healthy selections? Here are some other ideas:

1. BBQ'd Pork Sandwiches: lean pork tenderloin, cooked and tossed in low sodium Barbecue sauce. Serve with home made cole slaw and baked "fries" (potato wedges, drizzled with a little olive oil and tossed with herbs, garlic, and lite salt) with low sodium ketchup.
2. Vege dip: fat free sour cream mixed with chopped water chestnuts, spinach (defrosted and drained of all liquid), and low-sodium leek soup mix. Serve with carrot stix and celery, cauliflower, and low sodium crackers.
3. Brownies: look for low-fat, low-sugar brownie mixes (Trader Joes and Krusteaz), add applesauce instead of eggs or oil and bake. Top with sugar free/fat free ice cream.

Good luck!

What are some healthy, tasty meals for the school year?

monkisrock

Can anyone give me tasty but healthy recipes for the school year?
I don't like to eat breakfast, so if you can give me some very quick, easy to make, healthy and not too filling breakfasts, that'd be great.

And lunch I need to be able to make in about 15 minutes, be eaten in about 35ish minutes, healthy, and can fit into a lunch box.

Thanks!

-monkisrockmisox

Answer
Breakfast: Yogurt is always good. You got some calcium, some protein, and some vitamins, assuming you get some fruit flavored yogurt. If you want a little extra crunch, you can sprinkle some of your favorite cereal on top. Fresh fruit is also a wonderful way to start your day.

Lunch: Sandwiches are your bread and butter, literally! Mix it up. Turkey and tuna are both great for you, and if you put some healthy green lettuce (none of that iceberg stuff) and a tomato you will round things out. Go easy on the mayo, if you even want any. On other days you can mix it up with peanut butter and your favorite jelly. For some healthy, quick side snacks, I'd recommend a combination of string cheese, carrot sticks, and grapes. These don't take any prep time, and all have their own benefits. To drink, well, I think that's up to you. Bottled water is the simplest.

What are some healthy sandwich I can take for school?

Princess

yeah I need some SUPER EASY recipes sandwich I can take to school. I want something that I don't have to cook, just hand made sandwich. oh and NO peanut butter sandwich plz I HATE THEM.

Best answer will get 10 full points.

Answer
You might consider the 'wrap' instead of the traditional sandwich, or even using a pita pocket as your "bread". Here are some fillings to consider:

1. Lunch meat, preferable low fat chicken, turkey, ham or roast beef, your favorite cheese, lettuce, chopped tomato, cucumber and salad dressing.
2. Hummus, tomato, feta cheese, lettuce, kalamata olives
3. Tuna salad
4. Vege sandwich: cucumber, tomato, cheese, lettuce, sprouts
5. Peanut butter, banana and honey
6. Turkey and avocado

What are healthy foods to eat for dinner?

healthy sandwich sauce recipes

healthy sandwich sauce recipes image

heyy =]

I usually eat pretty healthy foods for breakfast and lunch, but when it comes to dinner, my family tends to go for more of the fried foods. Right now, dinner is often a lot of white rice and some fried meat (chicken, steak, etc.) ... :p
What are healthy alternatives that aren't that hard to prepare?

Answer
You could try switching the white rice to brown/wild rice, or trying quinoa instead sometimes. With salmon or grilled tofu. As well as adding vegetables, like broccoli, green beans, carrot, cauliflower, asparagus, zucchini, etc and or a salad. If you can use organic natural ingredients.

Here are some healthy dinner food ideas:

~ Pasta dish with whole grain or brown rice pasta.
For example, with tomato sauce or basil pesto sauce, baby spinach, goat cheese or shredded cheese. Or a pasta salad with baby spinach or grilled vegetables, goat or mozzarella cheese, chopped cherry tomatoes, cucumber, red onion, etc.

~ Salad: mixed baby greens, baby romaine, baby spinach, Italian salad mix, romaine lettuce, etc. with things like cherry tomatoes/tomato, cucumber, low-fat salad dressing or olive oil/vinegar, red onion, dried cranberries, goat or feta crumbles, walnut crumbles or almond slithers, grated carrot, etc.

~ Vegetables - steamed, grilled, etc. You can also try adding a drizzle of olive oil on them, balsamic vinaigrette dressing, lemon - for more flavor.

~ Salmon + wild/brown rice or sweet potato or potato or quinoa + veggies and/or salad.
- For the potato you could make oven fries with olive oil & a sprinkle of salt, basil. To make healthy creamy mashed potatoes try goat cheese added in and for sweet potatoes mashed with cinnamon.

~ Omelets with baby spinach & cheese.

~ Sandwiches.
(On whole grain bread like multigrain, ezekiel, rye, whole wheat pita, whole grain tortilla, etc.)
- Smoked salmon & cream cheese
- Pesto, tomato, baby spinach & mozzarella melt
- Falafel & hummus
- Almond or Peanut butter & jam - nut butter with no added sugar
- Egg & cheese, egg white & spinach in a whole grain tortilla, with cheese like 1-2 tbsp goat cheese
- Chickpea wrap (with things like grated carrot, cherry tomatoes, cucumber, red onion, mixed baby greens, salad dressing, etc.)
- Black bean wrap with salsa & some cheese; or a quesadilla on a whole grain tortilla
- Veggie burger
- Hummus, lettuce, grated carrot, sliced cherry tomatoes in a whole wheat pita half

~ Vegetables like broccoli, carrot, yellow & green zucchini, mushrooms, red onion stir fried in olive oil with tofu, served with wild/brown rice of whole grain noodles.

~ Whole wheat pita pizza or multigrain thin crust pizza, with tomato or pesto; baby spinach, mozzarella, grilled vegetables, etc.

What are some healthy choices for my lunchbox at school?

Kate Sterl

I am going into senior and need some healthy choices to get fit and healthy!
Any ideas?

Answer
Fresh and dried fruit is really good for snacks.

For lunch I make a big batch of pasta (with whatever sauce I feel like) and then eat it for lunch during the week. It usually keeps well and tates great. You can also have wraps, salad sandwiches, and other breads with salad fillings. I take cous cous (which can be a bit messy) and leftover dinner.

The easiest that I find is little cans of tuna (but obviously only if you like the taste of tuna.)

You can take vegetables like carrots etc. for snacks as well.

Take a drink bottle as it is easy to mistake thirst for hunger. Just make sure you don't drink too much as you will need to go to the toilet during class.

You can make healthy muffins (with fruit etc in them). Look on google for healthy muffin recipes.

Cheese and crackers are good - just make sure that you get low fat cheese.

If you make grilled homemade pizzas with healthy ingredients, you can then take them to school the next day.

Nuts are also great for quick snacks.

I am looking for some easy, healthy, yummy recipes. Short preparation and cook time preferred. Please keep in mind that I'm a college student that works part time and I cannot spend tons of money either. Also, I do not eat chicken or pork. I prefer to eat seafood most of the time as it is lean and healthy. I eat beef very rarely because I prefer it over iron tablets. Thanks! :)

Answer
Stir fry - Put a bunch of vegetables in the wok with a touch of oil, serve over short grain brown rice.

Soup - Boil vegetables, throw in some noodles, drop in a raw egg or some cooked beans, how about a few shrimp.

Tortillas, beans & cheese. Slice in some tomatoe and avocado.

Sandwiches - Get nice crusty bread, good cheeses, fresh tomatoes, grilled vegetables, tuna fish. Also smoked fish on bagels.

Pilaf - Rice with herbs & seasonings, mix in toasted nuts & seeds, stir in some minced broccoli, carrot or cauliflower, cook using broth for more flavor, add fresh melon on top

Some of my favorite easy recipes are:
- Grilled avocado sandwich: butter one side of two pieces of bread, mash up some avocado and spread on the non buttered side of a slice of the bread. Top with sliced tomato, bean sprouts, lettuce, whatever floats your boat. Top with the other slice of bread, butter side up. Place on a hot pan and make like a grilled cheese.

- Steamed veggies over brown rice with [your favorite Asian sauce]: Steam chopped veggies like broccoli, cauliflower, carrots, etc. Serve over brown rice. Top with favorite Asian sauce like hoisin or teriyaki sauce.

- Soups: Take your favorite combination of veggies, grains, and beans and cook in a veggie broth with some spices. Very easy.

A Dozen Simple Snack Solutions

1. Ants on a Log: Cut celery sticks into 3 or 4-inch lengths. Spread peanut butter down the center, and then add raisins on top of the peanut butter. A Kid Favorite!

2. Boiled or Deviled Eggs: Boil a dozen at a time.

3. Crackers and Cheese: Cut cheese into small squares. Serve cheese with a handful of saltines or other crackers. Kids love to make little sandwiches out of them. Add cut up squares or triangles of lunchmeat if you like.

4. Crackers and Peanut Butter or Cream Cheese: If your family has no peanut butter allergies, saltines with peanut butter is delicious. Top with raisins, banana slices, or substitute cream cheese for the peanut butter. Jam or Jelly is also a great standby with peanut butter or cream cheese.

5. Fruit!: Fresh fruit such as apples, bananas, oranges, and any other in season fruit make super snacks. Dried fruits are also good-- apricots, banana chips or raisins. Canned fruit, especially peach or pear halves, and pineapple slices all have great kid appeal.

Fast Fruit Dip
2 parts marshmallow cream
1 part cream cheese - at room temperature
Blend the two and refrigerate until serving time. Fruit Dip may be thinned with fruit juice or milk, if desired. Mix all ingredients in mixer until fluffy. Cover and chill. Serve with fresh fruit for dipping.

Kool-Aid Yogurt Dip
2 tablespoons Kool-Aid sugar-sweetened soft drink mix, any flavor
1 cup vanilla yogurt or sour cream
Stir soft drink mix into yogurt in medium bowl. Refrigerate 1 hour or until ready to serve. Stir.

6. Kid Kabobs: These are fun! You need toothpicks, cheese cubes, pineapple or banana chunks, and cooked meat chunks (cubed spam, ham chunks, or hot dog slices). Use your imagination! The kids love to thread their own kabobs.

7. Popcorn: Popcorn, popped on the stove, or in popcorn popper-such a great invention! For a special treat, add some melted butter.

8. Quickie Quesadillas: Using a toaster oven-put one or two saucer- size soft flour tortilla on the toasting rack. Add shredded cheese of your choice. Toast until cheese melts. Fold over. Serve with salsa. This is one our favorites!

9. Sandwiches: Cut them into small triangles or squares for a great addition to the snack tray. Even the "plain Jane", PB&J gets added significance when served on a special tray.

10. Snow on the Chimney: Similar to Ants on a Log--except you use cream cheese instead of peanut butter. Cut clean celery sticks into 3 or 4-inch lengths. Spread cream cheese down the center, and then add raisins on top of the peanut butter. Grown-ups like this too!

11. Tortilla Chips and Cheese: Add a large pile of tortilla chips to a dinner plate. Sprinkle the chips generously with your favorite shredded cheese. Microwave or toast until the cheese melts. This can be made in the oven using a pizza pan. Serve with salsa, bean dip or guacamole dip. To make an easy bean dip, combine several tablespoons of salsa with refried beans.

12. Vegetable Sticks: Carrot and celery sticks are the usual--but broccoli, radishes, turnip slices, green pepper and summer squash show up regularly. Serve with your favorite dip.

I'm really bored and I need to make dinner...?

Lyssss

Hi, I need to make dinner now. I really need some ideas coz we've had nachos the last three nights and we have run out of corn chips. IDEAS!!! PLEASE!!

Answer
Stuff a chicken breast with cream cheese/cheddar and rub spices on it, then wrap 1-2 slices of bacon around it and place in oven for about 30 mins. Serve with potato wedges and salad/rice with vegetables.

Have a couple of slices of bacon with slices of avocado on a bagel/ciabatta roll/slice of toast.

Get a stew going if you have a lot of time...you can use sausages/pork/chicken/beef etc...look for recipes online.

Or you can make cream of tomato soup and serve it with a grilled cheese sandwich. Simple but comforting I guess.

If you want a healthy meal, oven bake a salmon fillet (or any type of fish), drizzle some lemon juice and black pepper on it...then serve it with new potatoes (just boil them for 20 mins, drain, rinse, place back into the pan and add a tiny bit of butter/margarine and various herbs or mint) and steamed vegetables.

Other than that: hamburgers (home made or bought), meatballs and pasta in tomato sauce with garlic bread and/or salad, sweet and sour chicken with noodles/rice, onion omelette...depends what you have

California Grilled Veggie Sandwich

"I came up with this recipe to entertain friends. Since I am a semi-vegetarian and love to BBQ, I am always inventing something new. The first time I made this, my meat-lover friends raved about this dish! I prefer mesquite coals over gas barbeques...however, either works fine."

Original recipe yield: 4 servings.
Prep Time:30 MinutesCook Time:20 MinutesReady In:50 MinutesServings:4

INGREDIENTS:

1/4 cup mayonnaise
3 cloves garlic, minced
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1/8 cup olive oil
1 cup sliced red bell peppers
1 small zucchini, sliced
1 red onion, sliced
1 small yellow squash, sliced
2 (4-x6-inch) focaccia bread pieces, split horizontally
1/2 cup crumbled feta cheese

DIRECTIONS:

In a bowl, mix the mayonnaise, minced garlic, and lemon juice. Set aside in the refrigerator.
Preheat the grill for high heat.
Brush vegetables with olive oil on each side. Brush grate with oil. Place bell peppers and zucchini closest to the middle of the grill, and set onion and squash pieces around them. Cook for about 3 minutes, turn, and cook for another 3 minutes. The peppers may take a bit longer. Remove from grill, and set aside.
Spread some of the mayonnaise mixture on the cut sides of the bread, and sprinkle each one with feta cheese. Place on the grill cheese side up, and cover with lid for 2 to 3 minutes. This will warm the bread, and slightly melt the cheese. Watch carefully so the bottoms don't burn. Remove from grill, and layer the with vegetables. Enjoy as open faced grilled sandwiches.
