Healthy sandwich bread recipe?

Alyssa D

I need a HEALTHY quick bread recipe that i could use for sandwiches. This means i don't need too much flavor since the things i put on it to make the sandwich will add flavor. By healthy i mean no butter (or butter substitute), no sugar (or splenda), and no oil (besides a minimal amount of light tasting extra virgin olive oil). i want it to use baking soda or powder instead of yeast and i only want it to make one loaf. I currently have -
all purpose flour
whole wheat flour
extra virgin olive oil
1% milk
vanilla yogurt
eggs
honey
rolled oats
and many spices

Answer
Why do you think butter, splenda, butter substitutes, yeast, and oil are unhealthy? Do you research or just follow a silly crowd.
If you use the ingredients you want you will get a horrible product.
You might as well put your organic tuna on cardboard and eat it.
My advise to you is to make a nice bread and enjoy life.

Answer
I have to eat pretty similar to this. I hope you have another list of what you 'can' eat, it's much better to read! :-)

Anyway here are some things I eat:

BF:
eggs over brown rice, or with French meadow brand brown rice bread (no yeast, natural sourdough, it's good!!)

Smoothie with vanilla whey protein powder, strawberries, flax oil, one raw egg, a bit of cranberry juice (non-sweetened), stevia to sweeten if you need it, or a half of a banana

Shrimp or vegetable omelet

Lunch
Chicken 'noodle' soup with veggies - but with brown rice macaroni.

A sandwich made from the french meadow bread. Use bay shrimp (the small ones), cream cheese, tomato, onion & lettuce. Grill the sandwich if you have time, the french meadow bread tastes better toasted.

I also make a really hearty vegetable soup with a tomato base. I put grass-fed beef in it (I can eat beef & chicken) but you could add shrimp. email me if you want the recipe.

Easy quick lunch: can of tuna or salmon mixed with a healthy brand of mayo, over lettuce with tomato & cucumber

Dinner
You have a load of options for dinner since you eat seafood. Here are some of my favorites:

Tilipia with pesto
Salmon with butter, dill, lemon & garlic, baked in oven

shrimp scampi - I saute one leek, garlic, butter, lemon and then throw in the shrimp, this is good over rice

Shrimp louie salad - add hard boiled eggs

Salmon marinated in a bit of soy sauce (naturally brewed), fresh ginger, garlic

A big omelet with sauteed veggies & some ricotta cheese. Or make an 'italian' omelet with tomato, basil & ricotta. yum!

Grilled scallops with whole wheat pasta (or brown rice pasta) with a veggie

Shrimp curry - I have an easy recipe if you like curry & if you can eat coconut. Email me if you need it

Snacks
I love the cracker brand 'Mary's Gone Crackers', onion flavor. you can find it at a health food store like whole foods. They are gluten free. And 15 crackers are a serving so you really feel like you're eating well. Have these with hummus or herbed cream cheese.

Dip apples or celery sticks into a cheese that you're allowed.

Hard boiled eggs

cottage cheese with fruit

super quick snack: piece of the french meadow bread, toasted, with a schmear of cream cheese

I know how daunting it can be to start a new eating plan. Try planning out a few days menus ahead of time, you'll feel better. And your body will thank you! Have fun with it.

You might try the 'Fat Flush cookbook' by Ann Louise Gittleman, please don't be turned off by the name. It has a lot of recipes with the foods that you can eat.

What are the healthy ways to lose weight?

Miguel

Answer
1 Determine your daily caloric intake. Losing weight is simply an activity. Lower your calories intake without starving. Remember to calculate your metabolism. The metabolism is a large part of your calories burned in an average day. To win the battle, know how many calories you consume in a day.
Write down all the things you eat on a typical day. Carry a small notebook with you and write down every snack, every drink, and the contents of every meal. There are also great websites that you can use to keep track of calories, get recipes, and help achieve your goal. Don't forget to include the pats of butter or the spoonful of sugar in your coffee. It's best to do this for at least a couple weekdays and a weekend; it's even better if you can go a full week.

2 Go over the list and decide which foods to cut out or reduce. Cutting calories is usually a lot easier than you might think. For example, that daily tall latte in the morning may pack 500 calories. Since a pound of flab (lost or gained) is roughly equivalent to 3,500 calories, replacing that rich beverage with black coffee can help you lose a pound a week. Look at the nutritional information for the foods you eat, pay special attention to your intake of saturated fats and empty calorie, high-sugar foods. You don't need to cut these things out entirely, but if you reduce your intake of high-fat, high-calorie foods you'll lose weight faster.

3 Seek out alternatives to the unhealthy foods you've identified. You can simply reduce the amount of soda you drink or mayonnaise you put on your sandwiches, or you can substitute healthier choices. Drink water instead of soda, for example, or use mustard instead of mayo.
Choose lean meats. Chicken and fish are both very low in fat, and certain fish like salmon, sardines, and fresh tuna are an excellent sources of antioxidants and Omega-3 fatty acids, which are also beneficial to your health, so aim to replace some or all of the beef or pork in your diet with these foods.

Start your days off right. A fattening breakfast of bacon and eggs or a pastry can be replaced with yogurt, oatmeal, high-fiber, low-sugar cereals; or fresh fruit for fruit smoothies. However, for those on a low carbohydrate diet bacon and eggs are a great combo for breakfast, since neither have carbs. But don't fall into the trap of skipping breakfast. Eating a healthy breakfast increases your rest metabolic rate earlier in the day, and reduces snacking before lunch.

4 Plan your meals. Look for healthy, delicious meals online or in your cookbooks, and create a menu for the week. Make sure that your meal plan reduces your total calorie intake: you're not going to lose weight if you consume the same amount of calories by eating different foods. Make a list of what you'll need for these meals, and -- except for a few snacks, of course -- don't stray from your list when you get to the market. Planning your meals helps ensure you get a balanced diet and reduces the temptation to stop off for fast food or order a pizza. Remember, it's easier to stick to your shopping list if you shop when you aren't hungry - this will help avoid impulse buys which contribute to calorie consumption.

5 Watch your portion sizes. Eating a whole bag of rice cakes in one sitting won't help you lose weight. When eating chips, nuts, or dried fruit, put a portion in a small bowl and then put the bag away. A great way to watch portion sizes while snacking is to buy one serving 100 calorie packages - and they come in many favorite snack food items! Eat slowly to avoid overeating; you will get satisfied with less calories.

7 Get more fiber. There are many myths about fiber, but there is science to back up its helpful role in the diet. Fiber keeps the right amount of water in your intestines, making your digestive system work more efficiently and helping to keep you regular. Thus, just eating enough fiber may help you feel slimmer in just a day or so. There is also evidence that fiber in the diet can help prevent stroke and heart disease, ease the effects of diabetes, and may even directly help in weight loss.

9 Exercise. Remember, you can lose weight either by decreasing your calorie intake or increasing the number of calories you burn. Any health strategy should include both, but if you want to lose weight fast, exercise is essential.

10 Perform low impact aerobic activities. Moderate aerobic workouts incorporating brisk walking, cycling, aerobic machines, or swimming not only burn calories they also keep your heart healthy. Swimming is great, especially if you are quite overweight or have joint problems, because you can get the same benefits of running typically burning even more calories with much less stress on your joints. Try to get at least 30-40 minutes of aerobic exercise at least three or four days per week.

12 Rest properly.

Sorry for the long answer! Hope I helped! Good luck!

Healthy Chicken Sandwich recipe ?

Jess

Heyya...if someone could type an easy to make..or a bit tough....healthy yet tasty chicken sandwich recipe then that would be really helpful. Thanks a lot!
@ Edit : Ok I changed my mind..it doesn't have to be THIS easy!
Spicy...tangy is the main criteria

Answer
Well its not so hard really, here what I eat everyday for dinner since im on diet:

Spicy Chicken Sandwich:

First you buy those packages at Walmart or something that have like 5 pieces of chicken breast. I like to pick the Tyson brand. Each serving is 110 calories and around 5-10 calories from fat and 26g of protein, which is very good.

Then buy Bimbo Soft Wheat bread, or if you can find it, buy Bimbo 100% whole wheat. I buy mine off H.E.B. dunno if you have that store where you live. 2 slices are 120 calories, 10 calories from fat.

And finally a spice called Cayenne Pepper Powder. Its very healthy and helps increase metabolism. Maybe perhaps you would like to add a little pepper too?

You can add lettuce or avocado if you wish!

Just sprinkle the desired amount of Cayenne Pepper on the chicken breast & cook it on high. I cook mine without any oil because it already contains fat which works well to not stick so much.

And vuala, you have a very delicious chicken sandwich for less than 300 calories and high in protein & wheat

And if you cant find the Bimbo brand, make sure the bread you buy does NOT have high fructose corn syrup. Many breads do.

EDIT: Hmm well if you prefer tangy...you could always add a little lemon. Maybe perhaps you would like to cook the chicken breast in lemon juice or celery leaves for a change?

But whatever you do, do not add mayo, mayo is never healthy even though it claims to be "low fat".

Healthy sandwich recipes?

Q. Any really healthy sandwich recipes? NOTE: I'm on a diet, so no fattening things! PS NOTE: I'm 14, keep it easy. Something that I can take to school!
NOTE: I don't eat pig at all. Also I don't want meat/chicken in it xx

Answer
Choose whole wheat bread, because it's more nutritious than white bread, plus it keeps you feeling full for longer.

Add some salad (lettuce, sliced tomato and cucumber, for example) and then a sliced boiled egg, some smoked ham (or a non-meat alternative, something in slices) or some sliced low-fat cheese, then add some low-fat mayonnaise or salad dressing. Wrap the sandwich in foil to keep it really fresh. You can also take an apple or orange.

Make sure the salad makes up half the filling though, because that bulks out the sandwich and is almost calorie-free. If you want to make something you can scoop into the salad, you could finely chop some celery and onion, and stir it with reduced-fat salad dressing plus a can of tuna or some chopped boiled egg, and use that.

Answer
I like to make vegetarian sandwiches. Ubber healthy.

Take high fiber bread such as Squirrly bread, spread on light or non fat cream cheese to each slice, add thinly sliced tomatoes and cucumbers (whatever appeals to you) and some alphalfa sprouts.
NUM!

Or for higher proteins roast chicken or turkey slices with roasted red peppers on the same type of bread with low fat mayo.

Just an idea anyway.

Is this a healthy sandwich recipe ?

Nick

White bread (the one you use for toast ) processed cheese ,sliced jam tomato Lettuce mayo honey-mustard salt and pepper ??

Answer
Not exactly. Processed anything really messes with a persons system.

If you HAVE to eat bread, go for the least processed. Make it yourself. Just because it's "Heart Healthy" that doesn't mean anything.

I just found this out a few days ago, but grains have no real nutritional value. At all. As in our bodies don't need it because we can't really process it correctly. Back in the day, people ate bread during famine and hard times. It was meant to be eaten as a last resort when you had to have carbs because you had nothing else.

Just food for thought...

Healthy Sandwich Recipe, please help!!!!?

Billie Jea

Hey guys, Im on a diet and i go to a school that has no cafeteria which means we have to bring our own food. I usually take to school a turkey sandwhich with mayo, tomatoe and lettuce and white bread and i know it has many calories. I would like to know an easy to make sandwich recipe with not many calories and that is easy to take every where. Thank you.

P.S. Not a very hard to make sanwich, just a VERYYYYY simple sandwich with few calories, and which has fewer calories, brown or white bread? Thank you sooo much :P

Answer
First off, sandwiches are a fine food to eat if you're on a diet. They incorporate several food groups and include good nutrition. Whole grain bread is better than white bread - it has more fiber and better nutrients. If you want to cut calories, make a large half sandwich using only one piece of bread, but adding more meat and veggies. Lowfat wraps are also a good way to get lots of protein and veggies in sandwich form without too much bread.

The sandwich you're eating is perfectly healthy. Mayo is an OK condiment if used moderately. It's made with eggs and vegetable oil, and the fat in it helps to keep you full (thus preventing you from overeating and extra snacking later). Don't use more than 2 tbs.

I'm not a big mayo eater, and have lots of things I like to put on sandwich bread instead:
Mustard (try different kinds - Dijon, whole grain, spicy)
Cranberry sauce (great with turkey!)
Hummus
Pesto
Avocado (also has fat and calories but is super healthy)
Oil, vinegar and herbs
Salad dressing

You could also think about salads. They're a great meal, and easy to make the night before.

how to make a healthy sandwich wrap?

banapples3

im on a diet. my goal is to lose weight, but i also don't mind staying the same weight.
the other day i had two yummy sandwich wraps, but from the grocery store. it had the white cheese, i think a little bit of mayo, lettuce, and meat (ham)
is that healthy, or too fattening?

i figured the mayo and cheese would make it unhealthy, so is there anyone who knows how to make a healthy sandwich wrap?

Answer
I'm at work right now, so I don't have the recipe on hand, but if you go check out this month's Better Homes and Gardens they have an awesome recipe for a BLT like wrap.. it only has like 275 calories in the entire thing and its GREAT!

What are some healthy recipes for kids?

Ashlie

I have a summer sitting job and the childs mom told me that she wants her child eating healthier this summer. what are some quid, easy, and healthy recipes that I can do that involve the child?
For Jacob:

I would like some recipes that would be easy to make, and that I can get her involved in. She is 11 years old, so it doesn't have to be the most simple thing in the world. I just want to keep it healthy and fun for her to help make.

Answer
Salads are usually pretty healthy, she can help you trim and prep whatever fresh veg are in the fridge. This will give you lots of vitamins and fiber. If you find some leftover chicken or steak or ham you can add that. Keep salad dressings light and just a drizzle.

You can also make fresh dips and serve it with baked tortilla chips or pita wedges. Salsa...this is tomato, onion, jalapeno, cilantro, salt, and lime juice. Guacamole...fork mash some avocados with chopped tomato, some onion and garlic salt, and lime juice. Hummus...drain and rinse a can of chickpeas (also called garbanzo beans), whiz them up in the food processor, add some garlic powder, onion powder, a little salt and pepper, and a little olive oil to get them to the right consistency. Bean dip...same as hummus but use black beans instead of chickpeas.

You can make a simple soup. Start with your soup pot on med high heat...add a carton of chicken broth, a jar of pasta sauce and let it come to a boil...taste it...if you need something, try salt and pepper first, and then you can add some italian seasoning, or maybe some bay leaves (you have to remove those). Add a box of rotini or shell or penne or elbow macaroni pasta. Let it cook for 10-15 minutes. Just before the pasta is cooked all the way, add a bag of frozen mixed vegetables. If you have some leftover chicken, or a smoked sausage you can also add that. This makes a large pot of soup. Serve it with a sandwich or salad...parents can take for lunch the next day.

You can do a simple pasta salad...instead of adding mayonnaise (the most unhealthy ingredient) use some greek yogurt or fat free sour cream. Shells and rotini work great for this...add some frozen peas and a can of tuna or chicken.

Quick Easy Vegetarian Meals?

I recently turned vegetarian, but my mom got pissed, so when she makes mels with meat in them, I have to make a grilled cheese. Im getting tired of those so what are som easy recipes that I (age 17) can make. Like fast healthy things.

Answer
Amy's Soy Mac-n-cheese, add Soy Knox or Smart Dogs.

Amy's Indian food or Trader Joe's Indian Food (Dal) with rice.

Veat 'Salmon' (pan fry in olive oil, garlic powder and capers or lemon juice) serve with rice and a salad.

Hummus, pita bread and a salad.

Gardenburger Breakfast Bacon - make a BLT add avacado.

Slice tomatoes in rounds, top with Soya Kaas mozzarella cheese, basil, cut up figs (peeled, washed in hot water to bring out the sweetness) sprinkle with a little olive oil and balsamic vinegar. Leave out to room temp until cheese is 'melted' looking.

Stir-fry veggies and rice with Tofu - I use extra firm, wrap in paper towels to soak up the excess water. Cut in slices, fry in a little olive oil, hot pepper sesame oil and soy sauce. Sprinkle with ginger, garlic, curry, whatever you have in the cupboard. Top with sesame seeds. You can also top it with sliced veggie cheese and serve on toasted sourdough with mustard.

Gardenburger Riblets, baked potato, broccoli (w/ lemon, margarine and garlic) and a salad.

Pasta w/ marinara sauce, if you have Boca Itailan Sausages (vegetarian) cut them up and add it to the sauce. Serve with garlic bread - spread butter on bread, sprinkle with garlic powder and brown in a pan, butter side down.

Clean portobello mushrooms, cut up, saute in olive oil, garlic and a little soy sauce. Serve with salad.

Boca Sausages or even MorningStar Farms Sausages (not the breakfast ones) are good on homemade pizza - add mushrooms, tomatoes, broccoli, peppers, onions.

Easy Corn Chowder Soup â 1 can each of White Corn, Yellow Corn and Creamed Corn, including the water from the can. Cut up celery add to the pot, add a little rice dream milk.

To vegetarian refried beans add mild green sauce. Add soy cheese if desired. Make Spanish Rice â Far East and/or Rice-a-Roni makes it in a box, just add tomatoes. Serve in a burrito, taco or tostada â add lettuce, tomatoes, soy cheese and avacado to the top.

Quorn turkey roast, with mashed potatoes and a vegetable. Use leftovers on for a 'turkey' sandwich or in soup -
Vegetarian Chicken Noodle Soup

6 cups of pure water
¾ cup Vegetarian Chicken Soup Base
6 organic celery stalks, chopped
1 ½ cups sweet onion
6 carrots, chopped finely
1 package organic noodles (rice, corn or barley)
1 package of Quorn Tenders (or use leftover Quorn Turkey Roast cut up)

Sauté Tenders lightly in olive oil. Heat water, add soup base, stirring gently. Add vegetables, noodles (consider breaking them into 1-2 inch pieces) and Quorn Tenders.

Basil, Tomato and Mozzarella Sandwich
INGREDIENTS
1 (1 pound) loaf Italian bread
6 fresh basil leaves, chopped
2 tomatoes, sliced
4 ounces fresh mozzarella cheese, sliced (Soya Kaas)
1/8 teaspoon red pepper flakes
1/2 cup balsamic vinegar

DIRECTIONS
Slice the loaf of bread in half lengthwise. Layer the basil, tomato slices, and mozzarella cheese between the two halves of bread. Cut into four sandwiches.
In a small dish, stir together the balsamic vinegar and red pepper flakes. Use as a dipping sauce.

What are some simple, yummy, healthy recipes?

dizzy r

I am looking for some easy, healthy, yummy recipes. Short preparation and cook time preferred. Please keep in mind that I'm a college student that works part time and I cannot spend tons of money either. Also, I do not eat chicken or pork. I prefer to eat seafood most of the time as it is lean and healthy. I eat beef very rarely because I prefer it over iron tablets. Thanks! :)

Answer
Stir fry - Put a bunch of vegetables in the wok with a touch of oil, serve over short grain brown rice.

Soup - Boil vegetables, throw in some noodles, drop in a raw egg or some cooked beans, how about a few shrimp.

Tortillas, beans & cheese. Slice in some tomatoe and avocado.

Sandwiches - Get nice crusty bread, good cheeses, fresh tomatoes, grilled vegetables, tuna fish. Also smoked fish on bagels.

Pilaf - Rice with herbs & seasonings, mix in toasted nuts & seeds, stir in some minced broccoli, carrot or cauliflower, cook using broth for more flavor, add fresh melon on top

Egg Salad Sandwich Recipe 10 points!!!?

Pretty Gir

Can someone link me to a recipe or copy/paste it. I lost my recipe of the egg salad sandwich.

Mine had
Toast / bread
Mayo i think... Help me out here
Lettuce maybe? dont know?
Eggs ofc.
And it also had onions the green circular ones
o yeah is it healthy?

Answer
Angels sounds good. This is how I make mine:

Multiply as necessary. This is per sandwich:

3 Eggs, boiled & chopped
2 Tablespoons Mayonnaise (just enough to bind it. less is more here.)
1 Teaspoon Mustard
3 Green Onions, chopped in 1/8 - 1/4 inch pieces
Pinch of Cayenne
Iceberg Lettuce
Toasted Bread (I like Whole Wheat or Sour Dough)

It sounds like you know how to do it. Chop the eggs and slice the green onions, add everything else and mix it well. Chill it really well and make your sandwich. I like to add Iceberg Lettuce on mine for that nice, cool crunch.

Bon Apetit'!

As for being 'healthy', the mayonnaise probably wouldn't make the top 10 healthy dishes. But compared to McDonalds? Sure it is. Everything in moderation is fine, barring any particular health problems.

Answer
Grilled Shrimp Appetizer
You can use an indoor grill for this one.
If your shrimp are not jumbo they will cook faster.

1 1/2 pounds jumbo shrimp (about 16), peeled, deveined, and patted dry with paper towels
2 teaspoons extra-virgin olive oil or canola oil
About 1/4 teaspoon salt
About 1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
About 1/4 teaspoon paprika
Dipping Sauce Suggestions:

1/4 cup jalapeno jelly, warmed briefly in the microwave to soften
1/4 cup bottled chili sauce
Salsa (like peach salsa)

Get the grill or barbecue hot according to manufacturers instructions.
Brush the outside of the shrimp lightly with oil. Sprinkle both sides of shrimp lightly with salt, pepper, and paprika.
Place shrimp over direct, high heat on the grill. Grill about 2 minutes on the first side, then flip over and cook about 2 more minutes until cooked throughout.
Serve warm with dipping sauce.
Yield:
5 servings

Mediterranean Magic Popcorn

1 bag of light microwave popcorn, popped (about 9 cups)
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 1/2 teaspoons Italian seasoning blend
1 tablespoon grated Parmesan cheese

Put popcorn in a large bowl.
Drizzle olive oil evenly over the top, followed by the Italian herbs and grated Parmesan.
Toss to blend well. Keep in a sealable plastic bag and eat within 2 days.
Yield:
3 servings

Thin and Crispy BBQ Chicken Pizza Snack Wedges
1 whole-wheat flour, 96% fat-free tortilla (8" diameter)
2 tablespoons barbecue sauce (7 grams carbs or less per 2 tablespoons)
1â2 cup (2 ounces) finely shredded Cabot 75% Light Cheddar Cheese
2â3 cup (3 ounces) chopped grilled chicken breast
1â4 cup slivered red onion
11â2 teaspoons chopped fresh cilantro leaves
Preparation:

Preheat the oven to 400°F.
Place the tortilla on a small nonstick baking sheet. Bake for 4 to 5 minutes per side, or until crisp. If air bubbles form, poke them with a fork, then press out the air with a spatula or oven mitt.
Remove the sheet from the oven. Top the tortilla evenly in layers with the sauce, cheese, chicken, onion, and cilantro.
Bake for 2 to 4 minutes, or until the cheese is completely melted. Slice into 8 wedges. Serve immediately.
Note: It is critical that you do not attempt to make a pizza "crust" from a low-carb tortilla. It will smoke and burn, without becoming crisp. Most barbecue sauce is high in sugar and carbohydrates. I always look for one with 7 grams or less of carbs per serving. Although you can use "low-carb" barbecue sauce, I have not found one that I enjoy, so I opt for one that contains less carbohydrates rather than one that's called "low-carb."

Is this sandwich recipe healthy?

Val

I'm just going to have it once or maybe twice a week.
I'm just asking.

I'll use whole wheat bread, boiled chicken, one tablespoon mayonnaise, raw tomatoes, cucumber and a little bit of mustard.
Also, if necessary, one low-fat cheese slice and a little bit of ketchup >w<

Answer
Cheese and mayo will be the most caloric thing on the sandwich. But we certainly need fat in our diet. In terms of being healthy the sandwich you describe is pretty healthy. It's low fat, high protein, good amount of fiber, low carbs. Good balance. Try grilling or baking the chicken for a little more flavor.

What is a healthy sandwich using fresh chicken?

CLICKY HER

I have some fresh chicken that was pretty recently cooked. What are some sandwiches that are low calorie and use chicken? The lowst calorie bread i have is dark rye bread (70 calories per slice) (but i only have one slice left), or the next lowest is 100% whole wheat bread at 90 calories per slice. So the only way i could use the dark rye is if i had an open faced, or a half sandwich. What are some good recipes that you would suggest? Please not too much cooking or presperation, and please include the calorie count of the sandwich, Thank you so much! (btw, this isnt the only kind of recipe i want, but i particularly like spicy chicken sandwiches)

Answer
CHICKEN SALSA SANDWICH GRILL

4 boneless skinless chicken breast halves
1/2 cup salsa
3 whole garlic cloves
2 tablespoons olive oil
1/3 cup shredded cheddar cheese
4 hamburger buns
4 large lettuce leaves
seasoned salt
pepper
a few drops fresh lemon juice (optional)

In a skillet, saute chicken with garlic cloves for 5-7 minutes on each side until chicken is white and opaque or until done (165°F). Turn garlic cloves until both sides achieve a roasted appearance, then crush them into the oil using a fork. Remove if the cloves begin to brown, as this will make the oil bitter.

Meanwhile, brush hamburger buns lightly with a few drops of olive oil (or melted butter if preferred) and broil or toast until lightly golden on the inside.

Remove skillet from heat. Slice each chicken breast into 3 or 4 pieces and divide evenly onto toasted buns. Sprinkle lightly with seasoned salt and pepper, and a few drops of freshly squeezed lemon juice, if desired.

Top with salsa and shredded cheese; run under broiler just until cheese has melted, about 2 minutes.

Variation: This can be prepared on the outdoor grill. Marinate chicken breasts in olive oil into which the garlic cloves have been pressed for 30 minutes before grilling chicken over hot coals.

Makes 4 Servings.

Grilled Sourdough Cheese Sandwich
Sourdough bread
Butter
Chedder Cheese
Havarti Cheese
Tomato Slices
Oragano

Butter each side of the bread, On one slice place a layer of Havarti cheese, then tomato slices, followed by Chedder Cheese slices then the other slice of bread. Brown in a warm skillet sprayed with pam.

Otherwise you could always do a fresh garden salad with veggies.

Or kids always love a veggie tray with carrots, celery, broccoli, cauliflower, cucumber, etc.. and then having a bunch of dipping sauces like ranch, peanut butter, whatever salad dressing they like, honey mustard, cheese...

Hope that helps!

I need to some healthy sandwich recipes,..peanut butter and jelly isn't working for me (p.s. -i'm a body builder)

1 ounce is how many deli chicken slices?
does anybody have a healthy sandwich recipe using deli chicken slices?

im stuck for ideas for lunch..

Answer
The amount of chicken you get in one ounce will vary with the thickness of the slice. If you don't have a scale then when you get your deli meat make sure you order only 3/4 of a pound (12 ounces). This will give you a better idea of how to measure an ounce - 12 one ounce servings, 6 two ounce servings or 4 three ounce servings.
When you make a sandwich use 100% whole wheat bread (more fiber, will fill you up more, easy to metabolize, etc.). Toast the bread. Skip the mayo and use mustard. Use low sodium turkey or chicken and low fat cheese. Tomato slices, lettuce or arugula.
I like to use red pepper hummus and don't use cheese or mustard (very moist and creamy). Lots of protein, low fat.
Happy Cooking!
