I luv Hummus(many different flavors) as the "protein" then pile it high with Tomatoes slices, Sprouts(or Romaine Lettuce), Cukes,Olives, Sweet Red Onion; what ever I have in the fridge.
2nd One I like really well is slices of Avocado, same as above..let you imagination run wild. If you like it as a salad you could easily like it as a sandwich too.
Use a good whole grain bread..all this works in a wrap or a pita too.

But these are recipes that I have made over the years.
Spread reg or flavored hummus and veggies (fresh or sauteed) in flavored tortilla wraps (spinach, sundried tomato--Trader Joes has about 10 different kinds)
you could also add grilled chicken and veggies in wrap

Wheat pita pocket w/ stir fry- Slice pita in half add grilled or sauteed red and green peppers, onions, broccolli,
pead pods or snap peas (any veggies good for a stir fry)

Veggie Clubhouse Sandwich- 2 Slices of bread (you can use spelt if you want of whole grain) spread no fat or light cream cheese red onion, avocado, spinanch leaves, sliced English cucumbers, sliced tomato(can omit if youre worried about Salmonella) and peppers (red or yellow) add salt or pepper to taste

Roasted Vegetables
Red onion chunked, carrots cut,sweet potato, beetroot, garlic cloves toss w/ a little olive oil and rosemary roast in oven or grill

Baked apples (Tastes like apple pie)
Core Apple, Add inside of apple cinammon, splenda(nutra sweet), and a little fresh lemon juice.I usually squeeze a little lemon juice in a leave a piece of the lemon rind in so that the cinammon and splenda don't bubble over but cook in.
Place in baking dish with a little water and bake until soft. (You can add nutmeg also)

Broccoli Slaw
Buy a bag of broccolli slaw (Broccoli Wockly) add in dried
cranberries and a few cashews (no salt or raw work well)
Add in Mazerrati's light or fat free colesalw dressing

yeah I need some SUPER EASY recipes sandwich I can take to school. I want something that I don't have to cook, just hand made sandwich. oh and NO peanut butter sandwich plz I HATE THEM.

You might consider the 'wrap' instead of the traditional sandwich, or even using a pita pocket as your "bread". Here are some fillings to consider:

1. Lunch meat, preferable low fat chicken, turkey, ham or roast beef, your favorite cheese, lettuce, chopped tomato, cucumber and salad dressing.
2. Hummus, tomato, feta cheese, lettuce, kalamata olives
3. Tuna salad
4. Vege sandwich: cucumber, tomato, cheese, lettuce, sprouts
5. Peanut butter, banana and honey
6. Turkey and avocado

Just a quick, small question: Making healthy turkey sandwiches......?

Well, I am trying to make healthy turkey sandwiches. Is tht tasty to use tzatziki dip and lettuce and tomatoes to make sandwiches with turkey?
Can you think of other recipes?

sounds good to me... tzatziki is usually made from yogurt, definitelylower-fat than mayo.

farmers market sandwich
1. Wash a zucchini, some button or baby portobello mushrooms, and some cherry or grape tomatoes. Red bell pepper is also optional.
2. Slice and dice everything, and set the tomatoes aside. Fry the rest of the veggies in butter, garlic, and basil until tender.
3. Melt a little cheese (optional) on a bagel or toast, and layer the veggies on. If you dice instead of slice, this makes a great baked potato topping. Serve with orange or grapefruit juice for an amazing breakfast.

Burrito Bowl
1. Make white or brown rice.
2. Pan fry black beans and corn together in olive or vegetable oil with chili powder, cumin, turmeric, crushed black pepper, and onion or garlic to taste. Pour this onto the rice.
3. Top with your favorite salsa, along with cheese/cheese replacer and lettuce if you'd prefer. You can add diced chili peppers to spice it up, or diced green bell peppers to cool it down.


My Favorite Stir Fry
1. Fry broccoli florets and sliced carrots in garlic butter/olive oil and minced garlic until tender.
2. Add baby corn spears and your favorite stir fry sauce. (I prefer House of Tsang Classic.)
3. Meanwhile, make udon or soba noodles, fettuccine noodles, or rice.
4. Add noodles/rice to stir fry and toss to coat.
5. Top with peanuts and enjoy.

Another Good Stir Fry
1. Press tofu and slice into small rectangles or cubes.
2. Wash snow or sugar snap peas and thinly sliced carrot sticks.
3. Fry until heated through, adding tofu near the end of frying, with your favorite stir fry sauce and maybe a little minced garlic.


Mediterranean Wraps (or Pita Pockets)
1. Gather a few of your favorite Mediterranean veggies (peppers, squashes, snow peas, potatoes, garlic, onions, etc.) Wash and slice them.
2. Put them in a container and add olive oil and Italian seasonings. (I just buy an Italian seasonings grinder, but feel free to improvise.) Toss to coat.
3. Bake, covered, at 350 until tender. The timing depends on what veggies you choose, but it should be between 20 and 45 minutes.
4. Remove from oven and put in wraps, pitas (with hummus of course), or serve with spaghetti and garlic bread.


Veggie Chili
1. Heat either tomato juice or chunky style tomato sauce, depending on how thick you want your chili.
2. Add beans and select veggies (frozen bags of veggie soup veggies work well). Optional: add tempeh, seitan, or TVP ground beef replacer.
3. Add chili powder, cumin, turmeric, and any other spices you'd like.
4. Simmer and serve with corn bread, on fries, or on veggie dogs.


Rice Pilaf
1. Prepare vegetarian friendly rice pilaf. (I use Near East.)
2. Steam broccoli, and tofu cubes if you'd like.
3. Combine, and top with slivered almonds or pine nuts if you're feeling fancy.


A Vegetarian's Steak Dinner
1. Grill or saute a portobello mushroom cap with minced garlic, sea or Kosher salt, crushed black pepper, and soy sauce (or balsamic vinegar.)
2. Serve with a baked potato and green vegetables.
OR put in on a hamburger bun and serve with baked fries or sweet potato fries.


For a super-light dinner . . .
1. Slice cucumbers, tomatoes, and red onions. Add baby spinach.
2. Toss with fresh lemon juice and fresh basil. Serve fresh.
OR
2. Toss with olive oil, garlic crushed black pepper. Bake at 350 until warm.
3. Serve with whole wheat toast and avocado slices.

Tofu scramble
1. Press a block of extra firm tofu with you was and cut your vegetables (potatoes, bell peppers of any colour, carrots, and mushrooms.)
2. Lightly oil a large skillet with olive or vegetable oil and add a little garlic, crushed black pepper, and cumin. Add potato cubes and carrot sticks, and stir constantly until heated through.
3. Next, add the mushroom slices and diced pepper. Season with basil and a little more garlic. Continue stirring until heated through.
4. Crumble the pressed tofu on top, adding more cumin and black pepper, as well as a little chili powder. Stir while adding a dash of soy, and sprinkle in turmeric until desired colour is achieved. Continue heating and stirring until the tofu has mixed well with the vegetables and heated through.
5. Serve in place of scrambled eggs, or wrap in a tortilla with salsa for the best breakfast burrito ever.
(I make this the night before, since I never have enough time in the morning. Just place it in the fridge in a tightly sealed container and microwave it or heat it in a skillet the next morning. It's meant for breakfast, but a large enough serving makes a great lunch or dinner on its own.)

I usually eat pretty healthy foods for breakfast and lunch, but when it comes to dinner, my family tends to go for more of the fried foods. Right now, dinner is often a lot of white rice and some fried meat (chicken, steak, etc.) ... :p
What are healthy alternatives that aren't that hard to prepare?



Answer
You could try switching the white rice to brown/wild rice, or trying quinoa instead sometimes. With salmon or grilled tofu. As well as adding vegetables, like broccoli, green beans, carrot, cauliflower, asparagus, zucchini, etc and or a salad. If you can use organic natural ingredients.

Here are some healthy dinner food ideas:

~ Pasta dish with whole grain or brown rice pasta.
For example, with tomato sauce or basil pesto sauce, baby spinach, goat cheese or shredded cheese. Or a pasta salad with baby spinach or grilled vegetables, goat or mozzarella cheese, chopped cherry tomatoes, cucumber, red onion, etc.

~ Salad: mixed baby greens, baby romaine, baby spinach, Italian salad mix, romaine lettuce, etc. with things like cherry tomatoes/tomato, cucumber, low-fat salad dressing or olive oil/vinegar, red onion, dried cranberries, goat or feta crumbles, walnut crumbles or almond slithers, grated carrot, etc.

~ Vegetables - steamed, grilled, etc. You can also try adding a drizzle of olive oil on them, balsamic vinaigrette dressing, lemon - for more flavor.

~ Salmon + wild/brown rice or sweet potato or potato or quinoa + veggies and/or salad.
- For the potato you could make oven fries with olive oil & a sprinkle of salt, basil. To make healthy creamy mashed potatoes try goat cheese added in and for sweet potatoes mashed with cinnamon.

~ Omelets with baby spinach & cheese.

~ Sandwiches.
(On whole grain bread like multigrain, ezekiel, rye, whole wheat pita, whole grain tortilla, etc.)
- Smoked salmon & cream cheese
- Pesto, tomato, baby spinach & mozzarella melt
- Falafel & hummus
- Almond or Peanut butter & jam - nut butter with no added sugar
- Egg & cheese, egg white & spinach in a whole grain tortilla, with cheese like 1-2 tbsp goat cheese
- Chickpea wrap (with things like grated carrot, cherry tomatoes, cucumber, red onion, mixed baby greens, salad dressing, etc.)
- Black bean wrap with salsa & some cheese; or a quesadilla on a whole grain tortilla
- Veggie burger
- Hummus, lettuce, grated carrot, sliced cherry tomatoes in a whole wheat pita half

~ Vegetables like broccoli, carrot, yellow & green zucchini, mushrooms, red onion stir fried in olive oil with tofu, served with wild/brown rice of whole grain noodles.

~ Whole wheat pita pizza or multigrain thin crust pizza, with tomato or pesto; baby spinach, mozzarella, grilled vegetables, etc.

What is a good diet for someone trying to stay healthy?

I want to go on a diet to be healthy, but I don't want it to have to be too hard. I work out a lot, and am very fit, but I feel that I am not making the healthiest choices when it comes to eating. What should I do when it comes to disciplining my food choices?

Thats great that your active and want to eat healthy :)
Go for natural, organic foods. Eat smaller portions more often rather than big portions less often. Avoid things like soda, diet soda or any diet drinks, artificial colors or sweeteners, too much sugar, overly processed foods. Remember to drink plenty of water. Green tea is great to =) As well as water with lemon which is cleansing, good for your skin, digestive system.

You can also try out healthier alternatives with food.
Examples:

- Replace fast food french fries with homemade sweet potato or regular fries (made with a touch of olive oil, salt)

- For chips, you could try natural sweet potato chips, pita chips, fat free popcorn, pop chips or a natural potato chip brand like Kettle. You can also make your own chips by thinly slicing potatoes or sweet potatoes, glazing with olive oil, sprinkling with salt (pepper, basil if you'd like - cinnamon goes well with sweet potatoes) & baking them.

- Replace candy with things like frozen grapes or banana slices, dried mango strips, dried blueberries/cranberries/cherries/papaya, raisins, etc.

- Try a veggie burger on a whole wheat bun, topped with some things you like.

- If you want soda, try cold sparkling water with lemon or mixed with 100 % organic fruit juice instead

- Replace white pasta with whole grain in pasta dishes + add veggies (for example adding baby spinach to pasta, grilled vegetables to lasagna, broccoli/grated carrot/spinach/kale to pasta salad, etc.

- For a creamy pasta sauce try tomato sauce with goat cheese mixed in, for a healthier dish

- Enjoy pizza, try it on thin multigrain crust topped with fresh veggies.

- For healthier treat options try things like: frozen yogurt, vanilla greek yogurt with berries & grated dark chocolate, whole grain baked goods, etc. Desserts are fine in moderation :)

~ Oatmeal - great source of fiber, you can add toppings like: almond butter or peanut butter, nuts, fresh berries/fruit, raisins, dried fruit like cherries/cranberries/blueberries, cinnamon, skim milk or non-dairy milk, nonfat greek yogurt, jam, honey, agave nectar, maple syrup, etc.
~ Healthy cereals (Kashi, Nature's Path Organic, etc..high in fiber like raisin bran)
~ Nuts, seeds, almond butter, peanut butter
~ Non-dairy milks like soy, almond or rice milk
~ Ground flax seed to add into a smoothie, top yogurt, etc.

I drink milk and eat eggs still but I love it. I don't really like yogurt. I don't eat meat obviously. I am kind of a picky eater. What are some healthy school lunches that are easy to eat that I might like?

Sandwiches on whole wheat bread wraps with tofu (extra firm) or if you dont like use some vegan hqm or turkey col cuts, or half a mashed avocado they are all good sources of protein also on your sandwich have some hummus(whatever kind you like, my favorite is jalepeno and roasted red pepper) or veganaise and your fav cheese (i use either vegan swiss or laughing cow lite spreadable cheese) and your favorite veggies, i like cucumbers, bean sprouts, spinach, onions, but red peppers, tomato, or lettuce would all be good mix it up andtry all different stuff throughiut the week

Make some vegetable soup, or but some tomato or whatever kind you like from the can (just make sure its not made with chicken or beef broth) keep it warm in a thermos and bring a toasted cheexe sandwich to dip in or eat sepertatly

Bring your favorite cold cereal in a thermos and milk or buy a milk and have cereal as a little treat

On the side make some wholesome cookies with lots of whole grain oats raisins and seeds or trail mix with your favorite dry cereal, nuts, and dryed fruit. Or fresh fruit. Or hummus with veggie sticks.

I love hummus, and I always eat it with crackers. What are other ways to eat hummus? I would like to make yummy healthy sandwiches or something with it, but I know it has to be just so for hummus to taste good with it. So please what is your favorite recipe for hummus snacks ?

Use your hummus in place of Mayonnaise on your favorite sandwich.....

My favorite is hummus spread on a pita, topped with (drained) roasted red peppers and Feta cheese with sprouts.....Light, refreshing and a snap to make......

Also, instead of boring "sour cream based dips" I use hummus with raw veggies for dipping.....you can also flavor the hummus with roasted garlic, roasted red peppers (blend together in a food processor: the result tastes like pimiento cheese).........Those are a couple of my favorite ways to eat hummus.....Enjoy!!!
