Q. thanks! best answer ten points!

Answer
put chocolate frosting between gram crackers
put vanilla frosting between cinnamon grm crackers

Fun Food Tips

Freeze a whole banana and then serve with a spoon! It tastes like banana ice cream!

Serve frozen peas or other vegetables right out of the freezer as finger food, - they're sweet.

Puzzle sandwiches: Cut a sandwich into odd shapes that fit together like a puzzle.

Serve crepes with many different fillings.

Make and use sprinkles: Chop, grind, or mix together 1/3 cup granola, 1/3 cup nuts, and 1/3 cup wheat germ. Sprinkle on yogurt, fruit, ice cream, cottage cheese.

Serve shape pancakes: When frying pancakes, pour the batter into numbers, letters, or shapes. Let your child choose some shapes to have you prepare.

Try having breakfast foods for dinner, and leftovers from dinner for breakfast.

Mix plain sparkling water with fruit juice and add chunks of fruit for decoration.

Have a winter picnic on a blanket in the house!

Cut sandwiches, bologna, or cheese into shapes with cookie cutters.

Prepare soft shell tortillas with melted cheese, chopped vegetables, meat, or refried beans. Roll like a jellyroll or sprinkle flat like a pizza.

Dip less desired foods in appealing dips: cheese dip, bean dip, sweet mustard, ketchup, cream dips, salsa, yogurt, honey, etc.

Create international meals: plan a meal with a theme from another culture.

Make a variety of healthy shakes loaded with fruit, yogurt, and honey.

Bake a simple muffin or quick bread recipe with your child. Have a tea party, using the baked goods for the treat.

Make kabobs or "hors d'oeuvres" using pretzels for skewers, with meatballs, fruit chunks, cheese cubes, salami, etc.

Make cinnamon apples: Cut apples into slices and place a small amount of cinnamon sugar on the plate. Let your child dip the apples into the cinnamon.

Same food, more fun: Prepare foods that you can eat with your fingers and then serve in muffin tins, pie plates, or allow your child to occasionally use a fancy plate or serving dish.

Simple foods for toddlers...?

Question-

I babysit my 3 year old sister everyday and just now I realized that the only things she ever eats are kraft dinner, Mcdonalds and frozen foods and very rarely the food my mom cooks and leaves in the fridge. I know this is soo unhealthy especially for a 3 year old.

I'm only 15 years old so I don't really know how to make meals from scratch. I could try, but like all 3 year olds, she extremely picky with what she eats...so I'm afraid my meal won't taste good enough for her to eat putting into consideration that i don't cook.

So are there any (simple) full proof toddler approved recipes that you guys can share with me??

Answer
Well most kids are picky eaters at that age but you can try mac n cheese, peanut butter n jelly sandwiches ( I cut them into fun shapes using cookie cutters)...ill even tell my son be a montser and eat the plane...lol. it works...he very picky! Try soups like chicken noodle soups, my son loves spinach pizza. Give healthy snacks likes fruits and granola bars, etc. My son like fruit smoothies a lot. I tell him its slushie.

Kid lunch recipes?

Q. Ok, so I need some kid-approved luch recipes.

They're kind of sick of sandwiches, soups, etc.

Simple is always the best route to go..

Any suggestions would be great!

Answer
If you make it fun/interesting and get them involved they will eat healthy.

My kids love what they call "cube lunch". Baked chicken breast cut in cubes (usually leftover from dinner), cheese cut in cubes, croutons, and watermelon or cantelope cut in cubes. They like to pick up the cubes with toothpicks or eat with their fingers.

Ramen is always quick and easy. I drain the water off the noodles, then add seasoning packet, plus throw in a little meat and veggies from previous nights dinner leftovers. Looks like stir fry noodles, and they love (beg) for it.

Pasta and sauce. We keep big ziplocs of different boiled pastas in the fridge and different types of gravys (brown, white, tomato, cheese, butter/garlic). They they can pick their noodles (one or mix and match) to reheat in strainer under hot tap water and I just reheat the gravy in the microwave. Usually pre-make big batches of gravy and freeze in smaller cups until we are ready to thaw them. Or in a pinch, just open a can/jar of spaghetti sauce to pour on top.

Fresh produce and cracker lunch - Cucumber slices, steamed squash circles (3 min in microwave), tomato slices, apple slices, banana slices, peach slices, avacodo slices, etc. They like to see what different combinations taste like on different crackers or with different toppings (like honey, mustard, ketchup, syrup, salad dressing etc.) I usually just put out a bunch of condiments and let them experiment.

Goofy, I know, but we have fun with it and they enjoy eating healthy.

What is your favorite crockpot recipe?

simple healthy sandwich recipes for kids
on Sandwich - Healthy Recipes for Kids | Indian recipes for kids | Kids ...
simple healthy sandwich recipes for kids image

me

We are having baby #2 soon and I want some yummy crock pot recipes to make. Thanks!

Answer
Crockpot, crockpot...

I would recommend chicken and noodles or ravioli. Both will please adults and kids alike.

Ravioli
1 (25 ounce) bag beef ravioli
1 (26 ounce) jar pasta sauce
1 (8 ounce) can tomato sauce
1 cup water
2-3 teaspoons red peppers
Italian spices
1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
--Pour about half of the pasta sauce in the bottom of crock pot. Add frozen ravioli. Pour additional pasta sauce, tomato sauce, water, and red pepper over ravioli (I usually pour the pasta sauce on first and then shake together the tomato sauce, water, and red pepper in the empty pasta sauce jar to mix them). Sprinkle Italian seasonings over sauces. Sprinkle cheese on top. Turn crock pot on low and cook for 4-5 hours (until ravioli are tender).

Chicken and Noodles
3-4 lbs chicken pieces (I use 4 chicken breasts with bones, skinned)
4 cups chicken broth or water
1/4-1/2 cup butter (I use 1/2 stick)
1 (10 3/4 ounce) can condensed cream of chicken soup (I use Campbell's Healthy Request, no MSG)
1 (10 ounce) package extra wide egg noodles (I use the big bag)
salt
--Put all ingredients, except noodles, in crock pot. Cook on low 8-10 hours or on high 3 1/2-4 1/2 hours. (I cook just until the chicken is done, about 5 hours on low). Remove chicken from broth. I like to run a slotted spoon through the broth to make sure no little bones have escaped. Add salt to taste. Turn cooker to high and add noodles when broth is hot and bubbly. Cook 30-45 minutes, or until noodles are done, stirring occasionally. Meanwhile, remove meat from bones. Add bite-size pieces to broth and noodles.

Some other great recipes...

Pulled Chicken for Sandwiches
1 medium onion, thinly sliced or 1/2 large onion, thinly sliced
3 boneless skinless chicken breasts
Sauce
1 cup ketchup
2 tablespoons cider vinegar
2 tablespoons molasses
1 tablespoon yellow mustard
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1 teaspoon onion powder
1/4 teaspoon cumin
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon Tabasco sauce
1 pinch salt
--Cut the onion in half and slice into thin half rings. Line the bottom of the crock pot with the onions. Trim the chicken breasts and place on top of the bed of onions. Mix all of the sauce ingredients together and pour on top of the chicken covering completely. (I make the sauce the night before so that it is a simple dump and run in the morning.) Cook for 6 hours on low setting. The sauce thickens and turns into a dark rich brown during cooking. At the same time the onions dissolve into the sauce. When the chicken is falling apart tender, take two forks and shred the chicken. Serve on top of split buns. I like mine toasted so they hold up better to the weight of the shredded chicken.

Chicken Tortilla Soup
1 (46 ounce) can chicken broth
1 (15 ounce) can tomato sauce
1 (15 ounce) can diced tomatoes
3 cups shredded cooked chicken (I use rotisserie from the deli)
2 anaheim chilies, diced
1 jalapeno pepper, diced
1/2 cup diced onions
3-4 large tomatoes, diced
2 garlic cloves, minced
2 tablespoons minced cilantro
1 tablespoon chili powder
2 teaspoons cumin
2 teaspoons pepper
1 teaspoon salt
2 teaspoons Tabasco sauce (I use the the chipotle flavor)
1/2 teaspoon chipotle peppers (optional)
Garnishes
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
1 avocado, chopped
1/4 cup cilantro, pulled from stem
1 lime, cut into wedges
2 cups crushed tortilla chips
--Throw everything except the garnishes in your crockpot and let it cook on high for 5-6 hours. Dress with garnishes and give it a squeeze of lime and you're good to go!

Swiss Steak
1 1/2 lbs beef round steak, cut 3/4 inch thick
3 tablespoons flour
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon dry mustard
1/4 teaspoon pepper
3 teaspoons garlic powder
2 teaspoons shortening
1 (16 ounce) can tomatoes
1 small onion, sliced
1 stalk celery, sliced
2 medium carrots, sliced
1 tablespoon worcestershire sauce
1/4 cup red wine
1/4 cup water
hot cooked noodles or hot cooked rice
--Cut meat into 6 serving pieces. Combine flour, salt, mustard, pepper, and garlic powder. Pound 2 tbsp of the flour mixture into the meat. Brown the meat in the shortening on both sides. After browning meat, transfer to crock pot. Stir remaining flour into pan drippings in the skillet. Stir in the remaining ingredients and cook until thick and bubbly. Pour over meat in the crock pot. Cook on low for 8 to 10 hours. Serve with hot cooked noodles or rice.

Stacked Enchiladas
1 (14 ounce) package corn tortillas or flour tortillas (whatever size fits in your crock pot)
1 1/2 lbs cooked ground beef or 3 cups shredded cooked chicken or cooked pot roast
1 (20 ounce) can enchilada sauce
1 teaspoon cumin
1 1/2 cups light cream cheese
1 onion, chopped fine
2 cups shredded cheddar cheese or monterey jack pepper cheese
--Brown your beef or cook the other meat you are using. Mix cooked meat, cumin, cream cheese and onion together. Spray inside of crock pot with nonstick spray, then pour a little enchilada sauce on the bottom. Place one tortilla in the bottom of the pot. Cover with some of the meat mixture. Pour a little enchilada sauce on top of meat. Sprinkle some cheese on top of sauce. Add another tortilla and continue layering until you run out of meat mixture. You should still have some cheese and sauce left. Top with a tortilla, then pour remaining enchilada sauce over all. Cook on HIGH for 4 hours. When it's done, sprinkle remaining cheese on top, replace lid until cheese melts. Cut into wedges with plastic spatula to serve.

Enjoy!

What are some kid-friendly vegetarian recipes?

jmaddengrl

Im not actually a kid, im just really picky. I've tried only one kind of vegetarian meat and I couldn't stand it. It tasted spongey and dry. Does anyone have any good recipes (healthy please)? They can contain soy and tofu, just hopefully it tastes ok.

Answer
Try noodles in a tahini soy sauce.

*cook some pasta and noodles(buckwheat or wholemeal).
*make a sauce with tahini, water and soy (to taste).
*stir the sauce for a few moments in a saucepan till it warms and thickens.
*place sauce in a bowl or on a plate and pour the sauce on top

Tastes fantastic like this, but you can add some veges if you like - broccoli and snow peas.

I also sprinkle afalfa on top when serving, and may also serve on a bed of lettuce.

My brother's mother in law is Chinese and she makes a similar dish which my brother devours (even though he is a meat eater). When I visited them she specially made this for me as she knew I was vegetarian, but she had to tell my brother to stop eating it and eat some meat or there would be no pasta left for me, it's so delicious.

You could have
*falafels, hummus, tabbouleh, & salad in a pita bread.
You can buy plenty of good falafel mixes that are all natural. They are usually dehydrated, you just add water and leave to stand for 15 minutes, then roll into balls or stir-fry or oven bake (less oil).

There's a hummus recipe at vegecentral in the chick peas section.

You can also just have falafels and hummus with any salad choices instead of in a sandwhich.

*crudites with hummus

*Just sandwiches with sun-dried tomatoes, feta, pesto and salad of choice.

* vegetarian sushi
*lentil burgers

* I love to have stirfries with tofu and basil and pumpkin and other veggies (some thai places have nice basil and tofu dishes - make sure they don't add fish sauce). You could also add cashews to it (or other nuts of choice)

* You may like simple pasta dishes - basil & tomato paste with veges and legumes of your choice.
Try lentils, spinach and tomato with pasta
or
kidney beans, tomato and basil sauce with pasta.
*Pesto Pasta

*vegetarian lasagna's nice
* spinach and cheese rolls or pies

I get a dried tofu mix that looks a little like mince when you add water to it. I make this up in a tomato & basil sauce, add a few veges and have it with pasta. It's very nice - Planet organic vegetarian mince

I also cheat and buy prepared food - such as Amy's organic chilli (spicy) and have it with brown rice or toast (it's great to heat up at work for lunch).

I hope something here is ok for you.

I need suggestions for meals centering around beans that kids will eat?

I am trying to work on getting my kids to eat less meat, and more beans, since they are so good for you and cheap. I need ideas for simple, few ingredient meals that I can make with beans that picky eaters will eat. Any kind of beans will work, but I don't have a huge assortment of spices or seasonings, just the usual ones. I am looking for healthy recipes too. Thanks in advance!

I'm pretty clueless about what's kid-friendly, but one of my friends 7-8 year old son (who's omni) loves this & practically begs me to make it: http://viveleveganrecipes.blogspot.com/2008/05/chickpea-ratatouille.html . When I make it for myself I pour it over brown rice or quinoa, but for him or anyone else, I use white rice just because most people are more accustomed to it & some don't like brown rice for some reason.

You can also make a basic burrito type filling really easily. Just saute some onion & tomatoes (fresh if in season, canned if not), a tiny bit of garlic & some bell pepper until they're kinda soft. Add some beans (black beans work best I think) and some taco seasoning and maybe a bit more oil or water, and continue cooking for a few more minutes. You can pour this over tortilla chips & add lettuce for a taco salad type of thing, or just wrap it up in a soft tortilla with whatever else you want.

Also, I love this recipe for a sandwich filling: http://www.grouprecipes.com/11939/chickpea-salad-sandwich.html . I guess it depends on how picky your kids are, but it's basically like any kind of egg/chicken salad, etc. only much tastier in my opinion. :) I use scallions (in winter) or chives (spring through fall, because I have them in my garden) instead of onions because I've always had a bit of a problem with raw onions.

This is my 2nd pregnancy. Last time around I had a rough time at the end of the pregnancy. So I am trying to eat healthier. I am so used to eating mcdonalds though( I work there, so its free) that I can't really remember how to cook and prepare meals. I don't want this kid to be unhealthy so I would like him to get as much healthy food as I can get.
I don't care much for onions & mushrooms.
Anything is appreciated(:

Answer
There is no special diet and recipes for a pregnancy. You should eat a healthy diet that gives all the nutrients to help your baby develop and grow.

Remember that the food you eat is the main source of energy for your baby growing inside. A pregnant women should know that she is not only responsible for herself, but also for the unborn child inside her. The child's physical and mental development after birth will have a influence of anything seen, thoughts and the food eaten by the pregnant woman.

1.There is no special diet for a pregnant women, but eating a healthy balanced diet that gives all the nutrients for your baby to develop and grow is recommended.

2.For the first 3 months, the diet of a pregnant woman should include food rich in iron, folic acid and foods high in calcium. You may take iron and folic acid tablets if you are pregnant or lactating.

3.Folic Acid & Birth Defects
Women should get enough folic acid from their diet before and during the pregnancy to prevent major birth defects involving baby's brain or spine, according to Canadian researcher Louise Pilote of McGill University, Montreal as reported in the British Medical Journal, May 2009.
A cup of Brussels sprouts supplies 93.6 mg of folic acid. Brussels sprouts recipe

4.Fortifying flour products with folic acid may cut the number of babies born with congenital heart disease, the most common of all birth defects.

5.In the next 3 month (i.e.3 to 6 month pregnancy), the woman needs extra protein and calcium. Look for foods with high protein.

6.Pregnancy & Weight Gain
Most women gain between 10-15 kgs, but too much weight gain should be avoided. However, the weight gain during pregnancy will vary according to your pre-pregnancy weight. According to the experts, an overweight woman is advised to gain only 7 kg (15 pounds) and an underweight woman to gain up to 18 kg (40 pounds).
7.Do Not Eat For Two
Many pregnant women wrongly think that they should eat for two. Note that you need only 200-300 extra calories daily in pregnancy, i.e. a cup of reduced fat milk or yogurt and a medium orange. This is because your body actually absorbs more nutrients from food you eat during pregnancy.
Researcher Alison Stuebeworking at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston found that pregnant women should avoid eating for two since too much weight gain is linked with complications at birth. Pregnant women who eat fried foods and dairy products and food for two are more likely to gain as much as 35 pounds. Women with vegetarian diets and eating more monounsaturated fat found in olive oil and nuts in early pregnancy are half as likely to gain an unhealthy amount of weight.

If you MUST eat at McDonald's, make healthier choices. Salads, fruits, and sandwich wraps, as opposed to a big Mac and fries is in your best interest.
