did prawns increase cholesterol level.?

kennedy

i am diabetic from last 10 years and also i have heart trouble from last 2 years . can i eat prawns my friends told me that prawns increase cholestrol level detailed answer please.

Answer
Here is an interesting article for you:

Dispelling the Cholesterol Myth about Prawns.

Perhaps due to their wariness of cholesterol, some consumers limit their intake of shellfish. This may explain why the majority of prawns are bought as a treat in December for the popular Christmas dish - prawn cocktail. While delighted that thereâs such a demand for prawns at this time of the year the Sea Fish Industry Authority (Seafish) is campaigning to dispel the myth about cholesterol and keep prawns on the menu all year round.

People are confused by the message that prawns contain high levels of cholesterol. Cholesterol is only found in foods of animal origin and liver, egg yolk and shellfish are the major sources of dietary cholesterol. However, the level of blood cholesterol is affected more by the amount and type of fat in the diet than the amount of dietary cholesterol. A high intake of saturates, and fat of all types, can increase the amount of cholesterol produced in the liver and so the amount in the blood. This increases the risk of heart disease. Prawns are naturally low in saturated fat, 100g contains only 0.2g.

Prawns have only 99kcal per 100g while other proteins such as beef mince contain 209kcal and 13.5g of fat and grilled sausages contain 294kcal and over 22g of fat. Prawns are even lower in calories and fat than chicken. As well as being high in protein, prawns contain magnesium, which plays a role in bone development and nerve and muscle function; Zinc, which is good for growing bodies, and selenium, an important antioxidant.

Mandy Queen, consumer manager at Seafish says: "Prawns are mostly available already cooked. They can be bought frozen, pre-packed or straight from the fishmongerâs and are incredibly easy to incorporate into any dish â all you need to do is open the packaging. They can be added to meals such as curries, stir-fryâs, salads, pizzas, sandwiches and make a great snack too - prawns are ideal for dipping and are a much healthier alternative to crisps. Prawns are also excellent value for money and are available to buy for less than £1 per 100g."

For those who are passionate about prawns, Seafish has two free prawn recipe leaflets and a recipe booklet for the first 5,000 consumers who send a postcard to Prawn Recipe Offer, PO Box 119, Edinburgh, EH7 4HS or e-mail recipes@seafish.co.uk. The public can find over 300 seafood recipes at www.seafish.org.uk.
I love prawns, and don't spare a chance when i get it, but within limits.
There is a high possibility that prawns can do such a mischief, walking will bring your cholestrol to normal, so get off the stress as it too increases cholestrol.

Answer
If you want to do this it is for life so you need to totally change your way of eating and exercising. This is not a diet rather than a healthy eating plan for life. So no more talking diet cause it means time limit.

Here are the golden rules:
Initially cut down to 1200 calories.
Exercise 6 times per week for 1 hours a day. Do three weight sessions and three cardio sessions.
Don't eat carbs after 4pm, never eat carbs within 2 hours of exercise or within 1 hour of exercise.
Drink 3 litres of water per day. You can have a green tea at the end of the day.
Limit your fruit in take to 2 pieces per day.
Never eat dinner after 6pm.
Adopt of low GI eating plan this is sustainable for life!
Make low fat dairy choices

Follow this menu plan as a suggestion:
Breakfast 7am - 1 cup hot water w lemon
20 minutes later have a bowel of oats w water (no honey) OR
fruit salad w low GI soy yogurt
Snack 10am - pear or apple (both low GI)
Lunch 12.30pm - muligrain sandwich w 50g tuna & salad (no butter)
Snack 3pm - low GI yogurt OR skim berry smoothie (no honey or banana) plenty of ice, 1/2 cup skim milk & 1/4 cup yogurt
Dinner 5.30pm - 120g grilled lean meat/fish/prawns/tofu patties (not fried) w spinach salad & mixed vegies (no whites, carbs) OR 3 egg white/soy omlette with ham, cheese and tomato
Snack - 1 scoop of low cal low fat ice cream (if hungry)

Exercise is must be intense. Refer to www.bodybuilding.com for your weights routine. You can do a circuit class but this counts as one weights session. Never do weights two consecutive days have a cardio day in between.

Cardio needs to include running, boxing and spin. If your classes are less than 1 hour top it up with cardio before and after classes. You get the most benefits from exercise when your body is totally fatigued and this is when you see changes.

To maintain you can increase calories to 1500 and reduce exercise sessions to 3-4 times per week. If weight creeps up again due to holiday period etc.. go back to 1200 cal and 6 sessions again.

Good luck it worked for me it can work for anyone.

fast diet recipes?

Q. any 1 know of a diet that really helps?

Answer
hi :) am not sure whats available in the markets...but, this is what i did to lose weight... PLEASE DONT TAKE PILLS... pills are nothing but anorectic agents... they make you feel less hungry... there is no way to loose weight fast... though , sauna , steam and massages help slightly... it has to be combined with diet and excercise... pills are very bad in the long run... can lead to impotency and infertility...

i lost 10 kgs in about 5 months time... i am getting married in august and i desperately needed to loose weight... i was 65 kilos when i started... according to my BMI , i was 10kgs + overweight... i stand 5'2.odd and 65 kilos is grossly overweight...

just dieting wont help like i found out in my case... diet + exercise will do the trick...

i'll tell you what i did... it worked for me... hope it works for you too :)

the trick is not to starve but to eat smart :) and stay healthy :)

what you should cut down :
oil , butter , cheese , margarine , mayonisse , sauces (depends , will get back to that a bit later), chips , crisps, nuts , chocolates , sugar , cola, fizz , areated drinks ,ice creams , chocolate , alcohol , cakes and everything else thats hi - cal... you'll need to avoid everything thats sweet , oily and sticky... if you are not sure about what foods to avoid... check the net...loads of info available...

vegetables / meat to avoid :
potatoes - very very important , beetroot (its a root and has concenterated sugar in it) , all kinds of roots basically except carrot... avoid lamb, mutton , pork , beef, and prawns... all these put on weight... eat only lean meats... thats fish and chicken.. avoid eating egg yolk... eat just the egg white...

fruits to avoid :
mangoes , bananas , jackfruit

now that we had a look at what foodstuff is to be avoided...you might be wondering if there is anythig at all that you can eat... thats how i felt... there is loads of stuff you can eat actually :)

here they come :)

fast foods are a big no no... you can order salads and special lo cal foods that are avaailable in most outlets...

its best to eat at home for the period you are dieting and trying to lose weight...after those few months... once you've shed your load...you can get back to your usual lifestyle... of course with some caution...

my diet...
breakfast:

skimmed milk (use skimmmed milk , is low in fat , other typer of milk are higher in fat content) , fruit... i am from India... am not sure where you are from and hence you might not understand certain food types we consume here... but let me tell you something... Indian food is very very oily and very difficult to diet...

and try cereal in the mornings... weetabix... etc... have a good breakfast...alwaays use brown bread... whole wheat brown bread is very good for weight reduction...

for lunch , we are staple rice eaters... rice is bad for fat reduction... but i still took rice because its a habit tht cant be changed... everyone takes rice here... so... rice - one cup - 100gms and lots of veggies cooked in less oil.. and absolutely no coconut and curry with less oil... all in all keep your oil intake to 2 tea spoons everyday... that would be just for seasoning... also using olive oil helps a lot...

then for dinner... compulsarily have wheat... pasta is a good option...but make sure you buy wheat pasta... check before buying... and of course in pasta absolutely no sauces... some varities of sauces are acceptable... as far as they dont have cheese , butter , oil ,mayonisse and fattening substances in general... you can use tomato spicy sauces etc... make sure your sugar intake doesnt cross 2 - 3 spoons per day... (not tablespoons) and no butter and ghee of course... eat a lot of fruits and vegetables... and all kinds of cereal... if you are hungry... eat a fruit... or you can eat stuff like puffed wheat and puffed rice... but no puffed corn... corn products again put on weight...

eat sandwiches as much as possible... i dont know which part of the world you are from and hence cant suggest much for you in terms of recepies...

and combined with dieting... you need to excercise for atleast an hour everyday... you'll see the difference...defenitely... if you think gym is boring... take up dance classes... or run along the beach... if you have one... or skate... or just about any physical activity... brisk walking will also help...
the key is to stay healthy while you diet and lose weight...

drink loads of water...atleast 6 glasses per day... and do a lot of physical activity.... take the stairwy instead of the lift.... and small things like that...
if you have any more queries...mail me... cheers :) and good luck :) its not difficult...you'll get used to it in a few days... and of course the results are fab:) who doesnt want a great looking body...

you can get back to your normal lifestyle once you slim down... after that... its just eating what you like and burning it out the next day with just a little bit of excercise :)

What is an extremely healthy but inexpensive 7 day meal plan that I can go by?

healthy prawn sandwich recipes

healthy prawn sandwich recipes image

Katnip95

I want to start eating healthier. I don't really have any self motivation so maybe a meal plan will help me get in gear. I don't like drinking anything but water anyway so I'm good on that part. Any suggestions? (:

Answer
I will give 7 options for each meal sorry I am a vegetarian mostly so lol

Breakfast 1
Oatmeal with fruit (you can add a bit of honey to sweeten)
Breakfast 2
1 egg (prepared as you like), baked beans, 1-2 slices of whole-grain toast, fresh fruit, you can add 2 pieces of turkey bacon if you like
Breakfast 3
1 almond or peanut butter sandwich (use the natural kind), 1 banana, it's good if you can drink a small glass of milk but if not just stick with your water
Breakfast 4
2 oz of fish (it's not really expensive if you buy a fresh fish at a good price and then divide it into 2-3 oz servings b/c 1 pound of fish can give you 8 meals), 1/2 cup brown rice, http://www.yummly.com/recipe/Stir_fried-Sesame-Bok-Choy-Recipezaar, fresh fruit, personally I drink green tea here
Breakfast 5
2 open-faced veggie sandwiches on whole grain bread or wasa crackers, I add a thin slice of cheese (use a cheese carver it gets them really thin), fruit
Breakfast 6
Muesli and kefir (it tastes similar to plain yogurt it's excellent for digestion but it does take getting used too my husband loves it but I am not too fond of it personally) alternately you can have a healthy cereal with reduced fat cow's milk or fortified soy or rice milk depending on the cereal I might add fresh fruit I like nectarines with my bran flakes
Breakfast 7 (this tastes like a bit like a really nice chunky applesauce)
- Raw Food Breakfast -
"Oatmeal"

Serves 2
2 apples
1 banana
1 tablespoon golden flax seed
2 teaspoons cinnamon
Pure water
Directions

Put the flax seeds in the purified water and let sit overnight.

Peel the apples and cut them in smaller parts (for the blender). Peel the banana and break in parts. Rinse the flax seeds.

Put all ingredients in a blender. Add 1/4 cup water, just enough to let the mixture blend well. Blend all ingredients until smooth. You may want to add a little more water if it's too thick (I don't).
Tip
Can add nuts and/or raisins

Lunch 1
Salad (2-3 oz grilled chicken, cabbage shredded, apples (diced and peeled), yellow bell peppers julienned, diced red onion (small amount), caramelized cashews, avocado, cottage cheese (instead of dressing I detest cottage cheese but on this salad superb)
Lunch 2
Hummus and raw veg stuffed in a whole wheat pita, fruit salad
Lunch 3
tuna (just canned or pouched in water), bulghur (cooked in a vegetable broth), cucumber, tomato, avocado, bell peppers, mixed together you can add a small drizzle of olive oil
Lunch 4
http://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/12753/asian-prawn-and-pineapple-salad
Lunch 5
Chilli with rice (I add veggie crumbles for B-vitamins and so it's ultra low fat but you can use lean ground beef or turkey crumbles try to avoid full fat ground beef)
Lunch 6
http://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/333614/red-lentil-chickpea-and-chilli-soup
I like to have with hearty healthy bread. If you can't bring yourself to try lentils which are excellent for your health have some Minestrone Soup
Lunch 7
Black Bean Burritos alternatively if you are more of a meat eater
Apple Pork Wraps

Fresh sage
Handful of pork
Olive oil
A few leaves of romaine lettuce
Whole-wheat wrap
About 2" of cucumber, sliced thinly
1/2 an apple, sliced thinly
Salt and pepper

Chop the sage finely. Mix the pork and fresh sage with 1/2 - 1 teaspoon of olive oil. Lay one or two leaves of romaine lettuce on the whole-wheat wrap. Spread the pork evenly over the lettuce. Cover this with thinly sliced cucumber and apple. Add salt and pepper to taste. Wrap and eat.
=
Dinner 1
http://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/1031/thaistyle-steamed-fish 1/2 cup brown rice
Dinner 2
http://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/10388/thai-chicken-and-mushroom-broth (I would have with 1/2 cup of brown rice)
Dinner 3
Chicken Fajitas (I personally make my own wraps b/c I can't stand the taste of store bought ones)
Dinner 4
http://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/681659/watermelon-prawn-and-avocado-salad
Dinner 5
http://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/12142/tofu-greens-and-cashew-stirfry
Dinner 6
Thai-style Turkey Burgers look these up on that BBC Food Site you can have baked fries or some crispy raw veggies on the side
Dinner 7
Shish Kebobs lots of grilled veggies and a protein (hallomi cheese, chicken, shrimp, beef, lamb whatever) you can have with some brown rice

Don't forget healthy snacks: plain nuts and seeds, oatmeal, yoghurt, raw veg (with hummus), fresh fruit, fruit and veggies smoothies great for breakfast but I know you only drink water so maybe you won't like, slice of healthy bread w/nut butter

Not necessarily in this order I just put them down as they occurred you can also swap dinners and lunches. I tried to make dinner lighter b/c it's ideal

Answer
Well, i am following this diet where i have to eat alL these things for lunch, i will list them down, you can probably follow the same. This diet is called IDIOT PROOF DIET.
The trick with this diet is to stop eating when you feel you are almost full, but not completely full. youhave to stop eating just when you feel you can still eat a few morsels.

besides, this diet tries to trick your body by giving carbs every 2nd or 3rd day. just so that you dont become weak & still continue loosing weight.
it has been very effective for me.
check out the deit on this website, www.fatloss4idiots.com / and decide if you want to give it a shot.

The following things can be eaten for lunch.

- scambled eggs & walnuts (no bread)
- deli meat sandwich w/bran bread
- stir fried sausges & macadamia nuts
- spiced or stir fried or mashed cottage cheese & cashews
- grilled chicken or shrimps with sauteed or grilled veggies. ( the best way to cook these is, take all your fav veggies, sautee them with prawns with olive oil & oyster or garlic sauce)
- garden salad with banana milk shake
- peanuts & fresh oranges
- baked beans & apples
- fresh peaches & oat meal

i hope this helps, as it has really helped me, this is a 11 day diet, its better if you read up on the website to get convinced.
even without the diet, the above foods are very light & healthy. and help in further weight loss.

P.S try to avoid rice or bread for lunch. eat your veggies raw.

Can someone help me with a meal plan please?

Q. I am wanting to lose 30 lbs.. Im 5'7'' and im 200 lbs on a good day. Im pretty muscular but basically I have a layer of fat all around my body. my upper body is most defined, basically if I put a towel to above my belly button I am good looking the rest needs work. I need to lose 20-30 lbs, Im looking to be around 4-5 lbs a month lost average.. (6-7 maybe the first month and 3-4 the others, just because I have more fat now than the other months)

What do you think is the best recipe for Rejuvenation..?
Q. OK. we are looking for the Fountain of Youth here:-))
Please put here all what you think (from your experience) might help to extend life and keep us fit (herbs, fruits, vegetables, supplements, exercises...etc)

A. If you want to do this it is for life so you need to totally change your way of eating and exercising. This is not a diet rather than a healthy eating plan for life. So no more talking diet cause it means time limit.

Here are the golden rules:
Initially cut down to 1200 (women) - 1500 (men) calories.
Exercise 6 times per week for 1 hours a day. Do three weight sessions and three cardio sessions. No gym involved if you don't have the access.

Never do weights two consecutive days have a cardio day in between.

Cardio needs to include running, go hard up stair wells and cycling. If you have access to a gym include boxing and spin classes as well. You get the most benefits from exercise when your body is totally fatigued and this is when you see changes.

To maintain you can increase calories to 1500 (women) - 1800 (men) and reduce exercise sessions to 3-4 times per week. If weight creeps up again due to holiday period etc.. go back to 1200 (women) - 1500 (men) cal and 6 sessions again.

Good luck it worked for me it can work for anyone.

how to eat 1400 calories a day?
Q. im trying to stick to 1400 calories a day but i want it to included breakfast ,lunch, dinner and at least 2 snacks

A. Spread it out pretty evenly throughout the day. Have 3 good meals that will keep you satisfied and 1 or 2 snacks in between.

An example could be:

Breakfast = 300kcal
- A Regular Serving of High Fibre Cereal, 100-150ml Skimmed Milk, Fruit (1 whole and some berries or chopped to add to flavour the cereal)

Snack (optional) = 100kcal
- Packet of low-fat popcorn or fat-free yogurt

Lunch = 500-600kcal
- A wholemeal sandwich (the seafood ones tend to be lower in calories, and if you live in the UK, the M&S prawn mayo one is heaven) with veg & lean meat/seafood filling under 400 calories, a fat-free yogurt pot, a piece of fruit (e.g. an apple, a pear, 2 medium plums, etc.)

Snack = (about) 50kcal
- A piece of fruit

Dinner = 400kcal
- You could get a ready meal from a supermarket and have some veg with it and it doesn't even nessecarily have to be a diet one! Look for seafood or poultry ones as a good lean source of protein is a great way to keep yourself full and satisfied.
- If not, base your meal on a good wholegrain source of carbohydrate, being careful of the serving size, boil or steam some veg and have some lean meat or seafood. There are plenty of healthy recipes online you could search for. Here are a few websites:
