Other than sandwiches what other kind of food would you take to a picnic?

Hi

Please include dessert =)

Answer
Buy a bottle of wine, get some fresh fruit, brie cheese and make the following:

Sandwich Roll-ups
Forget the soggy sandwiches; try a picnic roll-up. (this recipe can also be adapted for low-carbohydrate lifestyles)

Items to buy:
aluminum foil
toothpicks
large tortillas (use wheat for low-carb)
thinly sliced lunchmeat of your choice
thinly sliced cheeses
whole lettuce leaves
condiments of your choice
The trick to get good roll-ups for this picnic recipe is the order you put the ingredients on the tortilla:

Lay the tortilla flat on a piece of aluminum foil.
Put a very light layer of your condiments on the tortilla. (see this picnic recipe is healthy too!)
Lay the lettuce leaf down. (this is important at this stageâthe meat and cheese will hold it down, otherwise your roll wonât roll correctly and fall apart)
Lunchmeat
Cheese
Then simply roll up your picnic roll and secure with a toothpick. For those of you that want to get really fancy with this picnic recipe, you can cut the roll and serve âfinger roll-upsâ.

Picnic Parfait
For those of you that just canât picture a picnic without a dessert, hereâs a wonderful quick and easy picnic recipe that is sure to please.

Items to buy:

Yogurt of your choice
fruit of your choice
granola cereal
clear plastic disposable containers
Simply layer your ingredients as you like and freeze your dessert. When you are ready to go on your picnic, grab the containers. By the time you get where you are going and are ready to eat this picnic recipe, you have a refreshing chilly treat.

What are some good sandwich recipes that you guys make?

Answer
Chicken salad sandwich

Sliced chicken by itself can be pretty plain, but chopped up into a salad tastes simply scrumptious. We always used cooked chicken leftover from yesterdays meal, which has been chopped in the blender. To the chopped chicken, add a little mayonnaise, some minced dill pickle, minced celery, chopped walnuts and a smidgeon of Dijon mustard. We serve up this winner on either whole wheat hoagie rolls or in a whole wheat wrap for a sandwich that's both healthy as it is tasty.

Ham and Potato sandwich

This crazy concoction has been a children's favorite for decades, at least at my elementary school! To make this silly sandwich, place a couple of thin slices of turkey ham on wheat bread, add a thin slice of American or cheddar cheese and a dollop of mayonnaise. Where does the potato come in? Include a container of five single potato chips which the children can add to their sandwich during lunch. The salty crunch of the chips against the sweetness of the ham is so tasty, they won't want to be trading this sandwich.

Peanut butter and jelly

Organic and natural peanut butters are high in nutrition and pack a lot of protein in a single serving. Since a peanut butter sandwich a la carte can be a little tough to eat , we always match it up with Mom's homemade low-sugar blackberry or strawberry jam for a sandwich that has the kids asking for extras.

Tuna Salad

Tuna salad gets a bad rap, but it's both low in calories and high in protein. The best tuna salad sandwich is a combination of low cal mayonnaise, minced celery, sweet pickle relish, a dash of sugar, and water packed tuna. To add some greens to your child's sandwich, stir in 1/2 of cup of chopped, fresh spinach.

Green eggs and hamwiches
Egg salad sandwiches were mainstay picnic fare when I was a kid, but aren't quite as popular as they once were. It's a shame too, because egg salad really is a healthy, low calorie, low cost sandwich ingredient.

To trick my kids into eating egg salad sandwiches, I turned them into Green Egg and Hamwiches. To make this silly recipe, use any basic egg salad recipe, but add a tablespoon of minced ham and a drop of green food coloring. If you really want to be sneaky, this is a great time to add alfalfa sprouts! The sandwich looks crazy but is so weird looking that your children can't help but gobble it down

Uses for a large batch of Pulled Pork?

Q. Spring is in the air and I've just cooked a large Picnic Pork Roast, fork shredded and is ready for multiple uses, what are some of you favorite recipes or uses for this heavenly protein? Thanks so much!

Answer
B-b-q of course

Smothered burrtios

Quesdaillas

Tacos

Make a kind of sweet sauce to toss with with and have it as a sandwich.

Tostadas

Sweet and sour over rice with lots of grilled fresh veggies.

Or try this salad. usually use chicken but go ahead and try pork. The verde sauce is also what I use for the smothered burrito's.

Polo Verde Sauce:
3/4 cup butter
3/4 cup flour
1 1/2 tbsp cumin
1 tsp garlic powder
2 cups 1/2 and 1/2 or evaporated milk
2 cups hot chicken stock (or hot water with bullion)
1 small can diced green chili's
4 tbsp canned jalapenos chopped

Melt the butter and stir in the flour. Let it cook and bubble for just a few minutes. Then whisk in the cumin and garlic powder. Then add a healthy splash of the 1/2 and 1/2 and whisk well, let it thicken up a bit. Then add a healthy splash of the stock, whisk and let it thicken up. Repeat until you have added all the liquids.

Add the chili's and jalapenos.

This is good on a chicken tostada salad-tortilla bowels or layer of chips. Lettuce, chopped onions and tomatoes, sliced olived and canned sliced jalapenos, and some shredded cheese. Do 2 layers of these. Then add the sauce and serve with salsa, sour cream, and guacamole.

This is also good on top of breakfast burritos, pork burrtios, as a green sauce for encheladas etc…

Soups

Casseroles

Tacos

Wraps-do the b-b-q pork with some coleslaw with it.

Nachos

Answer
Make yummy sandwhiche's

CUBAN SANDWICH

Traditional Ingredients:

3 slices (almost shaved) of boiled ham
3 slices of turkey (optional)
3 slices roast pork hot or cold
3 slices of salami
3 slices of Swiss cheese
3 or 4 slices of pickles
1/3 cut Cuban bread hard crust

Optional Ingredients:

3 slices of tomato
4 slices of green bell pepper
3 slices onion
1/3 cut French or Cuban bread
1 leaf Romaine lettuce
mayonnaise, mustard to taste

It is important that the sandwich be prepared on Cuban bread, French or Italian bread - any artisan style bread with a hard crust.

All cold cuts should be sliced very thinly; almost shaved. Slice the bread in an open faced fashion and spread lightly with mustard first, then with mayonnaise. Remember this is not entirely traditional, but still good.

Add the ham (roast pork), turkey and salami. Next add a layer of tomato, pepper, onion and lettuce. Top the sandwich and press.

Press the sandwich on a hot skillet with a weight on top. A suitable weight would be a heavy (clean) cast iron skillet that has been heated until sizzling.

Or better yet, use a sandwich press or panini grill if one is available.

Cuban Sandwiches and their variations are sold in almost every Deli or Restaurant in Tampa, Florida.

Cuban sandwiches are good cold and for picnics or take-alongs, too.

What do you and your hubby & children do, WITHOUT leaving your house?

Q. & that doesn't cost a lot or anything at all?

My, my hubby and our 7 month old daughter are trying to stay in ( without spending a lot of money ) to save for the Holidays, and for personal reasons.

Also, so this can go in this section - what is youe LO doing right now?
What do you plan to do this weekend?

:) TGIF!

Answer
There is a lot of fun things to do around the house if you get creative =)

List of things to do:

1. Game night-Play board games and cards. You could even make 1-10 flashcards your baby. Teaching her new skills.
2. Re-arrange the house or clean up around the home.
3. Cook together and prepare a healthy meal (Or experiment) for you all and your little girl. You can go online and find recipes.
4. Movie night- Get some blankets and popcorn (Puffs for the little one) and pick out a few kiddie movies and a few adult movies. Then hit the comfy spot and watch some movies. Movie nights help bond!!
5. If you all stay in you could play video games if you own them.
6. Be creative with your baby. Make art and music. Get out some cds and dance around with the baby. Let you play with her toys and you all make art for her. Or other way around let her mess around with some crayons and paper.
7. If you were in the social mood, you all could get the house ready and throw a dinner party for your close friends or family.
8. You and your Husband could sit down and make a LIFE list. Take 30 minutes to sit down and write a list of all the things you all want to do before you die. Then post them on the fridge. As a reminder of all your goals.
9. Have a indoor picnic with your kiddie. Throw out a blanket and make some sandwiches.
10. You and your Husband could sit down and surf the internet for all your Christmas shopping. Or even start searching nice places to vacation in the summer!!

Goodluck!

Just browsing for some yummy chicken salad recipes. Good enough to go on a croissant with some romaine lettuce thanks!:)

Answer
Chicken Salad http://video.about.com/southernfood/How-to-Make-Chicken-Salad-With-Apples-and-Cranberries.htm
If you're looking for a light and healthy dish that's packed with flavor, you can't go wrong with this recipe, so grab the following ingredients and let's get started:
Ingredients
3 cups of diced, cooked chicken
¼ cup of dried cranberries
½ cup of diced celery
3 tablespoons of finely chopped red onion
½ cup of diced apple
¼ cup of chopped walnuts
4 to 6 tablespoons of mayonnaise
2 teaspoons of lemon juice
1/8 teaspoon of curry powder
¼ teaspoon of salt
1/8 teaspoon of black pepper
Romaine lettuce leaves or croissants

Mix Ingredients for Chicken Salad
If you tend to like sweeter foods, then red delicious apples are the way to go; however, if you'd prefer your chicken salad to be a bit more tart, then green apples are just the ticket. In a large bowl, combine the chicken, cranberries, celery, onion, apple, and walnuts and give everything a good mixing. While freshly grilled chicken is ideal in this dish, you can save yourself a little time by using pre-cooked and pre-diced chicken, which is available in the refrigerated section of most supermarkets. We now want to mix together the mayonnaise, salt and pepper, lemon juice, and curry powder in a small bowl.

Mix Mayo With Chicken and Serve Chicken Salad
Once done, add the mayonnaise mixture to the large bowl containing the chicken and stir everything together. I like to serve chicken salad on croissants, but if you're trying to cut back on calories, it's also delicious served on crisp romaine leaves. Be sure to place any leftovers in the fridge in a sealed tupperware container. Chicken salad with apples and cranberries is a quick and easy recipe that's great for an impromptu lunch on the patio, or a light and low-calorie dinner for the family. You really can't go wrong with a dish that's simple, healthy, and loaded with flavor.

Chicken Salad Sandwich http://www.healthguidance.org/entry/11686/1/Easy-Picnic-Recipes.html

For this recipe youâll need:
Chicken breasts boneless and skinless (stewed, diced in small pieces): 3 pieces
Mayonnaise: 1/3 cup
Sour cream (fat free): ½ cup
Lemon juice (freshly-squeezed): 1-2 tablespoons
Green or red grapes (seedless cut in half): 2 cups
Salt: ½ tsp.
Pepper: ½ tsp.
Dried parsley: ½ tsp.
Poppy seeds (optional): 1 tsp.
Pecans or walnuts, chopped: 1 cup
Buttery croissant rolls: large
Romaine lettuce: cut to fit the croissants

Preparation:
To make this recipe mix the sour cream, mayonnaise and the lemon juice in a large bowl. In this mix, add the diced chicken pieces and the pecans, mix the ingredients well. Next, add the parsley and grapes and the poppy seeds and stir them well. Refrigerate this mixture for 1-2 hours. Take croissants, and if they are not already cut into half, then cut them from the middle. Place the lettuce leaves on the cut croissants and some of the chicken salad mix on the lettuce leaves. Cover with the other side of the croissant and pack them to carry for your expedition.

When you are leaving for a picnic, do not forget to carry some drinks. If it is a summer picnic, make sure that you have plenty of juice bottles packed while leaving. You can also make some Mocktails to go along with your easy picnic recipes. Plan well before you go so that you have enough time to get things ready for the picnic.

Where can I find a "cute blanket and cute basket" also what kind of snacks are good on a picnic?

T-BOX

I'm planing on taking my girl on a picnic my cousin told me I need a cute blanket and basket but I don't know where I can find either also what kind of snacks are good she doesn't like veggies or fruits or fruit flavored things except for cherry flavor and pineapple flavor

Answer
Try to check out the yogurt as there are many flavors and it will stay cool for a while. These two baskets are reasonable in price. In personally like the first one but I did see more and the price range I saw was from $22.00 to $711.00. The blankets are cute but the cutest ones I saw were $60.00. I did not go further into the basket and blanket as your cousin might have purchased them at some time and maybe you can borrow them. The thing I thought you would be most interested in would be the foods to take along. There is quite a list of them.
