Good, healthy bread machine recipe?

annonymous

My family is going on a diet, and I love to make homeade bread that I can eat sandwiches on. I like the kind of bread that cooks and everything in the bread machine. Please give some suggestions... Thanks. Also, If you have some other good healthy recipes they would be appreciated...

Answer
I developed these myself. They are 100% whole grain, but do have added gluten. Both are basic and can be tweeked, but accurate measuring (cups/spoons) is required.

I always begin by placing all the dry ingredients into a bowl. Once youâve done that, you simply add the liquid and other moist ingredients into the bread pan.

The dry ingredients are then poured on top of the liquids. The last item to add is the content of a packet of yeast.

Your bread maker may vary, but most have a setting for whole grain breads that is a rapid cycle, regular cycle, large loaf, and/or regular loaf. All the following recipes work best in a large loaf, rapid cycle.

1. Whole Wheat

Add into bowl:

¼ cup non-fat dry milk
1 teaspoon salt
3 cups whole wheat flour
3 Tablespoons wheat gluten

Add into bread pan:

1 cup water
1 Tablespoon margarine (or butter, or shortening)
2 Tablespoons molasses
1 Tablespoon honey (or sugar)

Then add the contents of the bowl into the bread pan, top with a packet of yeast, and place the bread pan into the bread machine. Make your selection according to your bread machines settings. Push the button!

2. Honey Oat

Add into bowl:

¼ cup dry non-fat dry milk
1 teaspoon salt
2-½ cups whole wheat flour
½ cup rolled whole oats
3 Tablespoons wheat gluten

Add into bread pan:

1 cup water
1 Tablespoon shortening (or butter, or margarine)
3 Tablespoons honey

Then add the contents of the bowl into the bread pan, top with a packet of yeast, and place the bread pan into the bread machine. Make your selection according to your bread machines settings. Push the button!

Healthy sandwich recipes?

Q. Any really healthy sandwich recipes? NOTE: I'm on a diet, so no fattening things! PS NOTE: I'm 14, keep it easy. Something that I can take to school!
NOTE: I don't eat pig at all. Also I don't want meat/chicken in it xx

Answer
Choose whole wheat bread, because it's more nutritious than white bread, plus it keeps you feeling full for longer.

Add some salad (lettuce, sliced tomato and cucumber, for example) and then a sliced boiled egg, some smoked ham (or a non-meat alternative, something in slices) or some sliced low-fat cheese, then add some low-fat mayonnaise or salad dressing. Wrap the sandwich in foil to keep it really fresh. You can also take an apple or orange.

Make sure the salad makes up half the filling though, because that bulks out the sandwich and is almost calorie-free. If you want to make something you can scoop into the salad, you could finely chop some celery and onion, and stir it with reduced-fat salad dressing plus a can of tuna or some chopped boiled egg, and use that.

I am looking for some easy, healthy, yummy recipes. Short preparation and cook time preferred. Please keep in mind that I'm a college student that works part time and I cannot spend tons of money either. Also, I do not eat chicken or pork. I prefer to eat seafood most of the time as it is lean and healthy. I eat beef very rarely because I prefer it over iron tablets. Thanks! :)

Answer
Stir fry - Put a bunch of vegetables in the wok with a touch of oil, serve over short grain brown rice.

Soup - Boil vegetables, throw in some noodles, drop in a raw egg or some cooked beans, how about a few shrimp.

Tortillas, beans & cheese. Slice in some tomatoe and avocado.

Sandwiches - Get nice crusty bread, good cheeses, fresh tomatoes, grilled vegetables, tuna fish. Also smoked fish on bagels.

Pilaf - Rice with herbs & seasonings, mix in toasted nuts & seeds, stir in some minced broccoli, carrot or cauliflower, cook using broth for more flavor, add fresh melon on top

What are some healthy, tasty meals for the school year?

Can anyone give me tasty but healthy recipes for the school year?
I don't like to eat breakfast, so if you can give me some very quick, easy to make, healthy and not too filling breakfasts, that'd be great.

And lunch I need to be able to make in about 15 minutes, be eaten in about 35ish minutes, healthy, and can fit into a lunch box.

Thanks!

-monkisrockmisox

Answer
Breakfast: Yogurt is always good. You got some calcium, some protein, and some vitamins, assuming you get some fruit flavored yogurt. If you want a little extra crunch, you can sprinkle some of your favorite cereal on top. Fresh fruit is also a wonderful way to start your day.

Lunch: Sandwiches are your bread and butter, literally! Mix it up. Turkey and tuna are both great for you, and if you put some healthy green lettuce (none of that iceberg stuff) and a tomato you will round things out. Go easy on the mayo, if you even want any. On other days you can mix it up with peanut butter and your favorite jelly. For some healthy, quick side snacks, I'd recommend a combination of string cheese, carrot sticks, and grapes. These don't take any prep time, and all have their own benefits. To drink, well, I think that's up to you. Bottled water is the simplest.

Q. Do you have a unique sandwich idea? I prefer healthy sandwiches (no bologna), but I'm getting bored with my usuals. What are some of your ideas to add variety to my lunch sandwiches? Different ideas for breads? ingredients? types of mustard? combinations of ingredients?

I already enjoy turkey w/ swiss, cheese, cranberry & stuffing ... another favorite is a good slice of baquette, w/ artichoke hearts, brie cheese, and toasted almonds, broiled til warm and gooey.
Wow, some great recipes so far! Things that have caught my eye are the olive spread and grilled vegies; the tofu; the Sharon sandwich; Calif chicken; tom, basil, mozzerella; and chicken w/ basil, etc.

I do enjoy PB& banana, I'll have to try w/ strawberry slices :-)

Tuna w/ BBQ sauce? what kind of bbq sauce?

Keep the ideas/recipes coming, and thanks!

Answer
grilled chicken breast
pesto sauce mixed with mayo
roasted red peppers
red onion, thinly sliced
provolone cheese
on herbed foccacia or ciabatta bread, or even in a pita

Then, if you have a grill (better yet, a panini grill), grill the completed sandwich until the cheese starts to melt and the bread gets crusty.

I think I have to get out of the food section. LoL. Drool =P

Could someone give me a really good healthy whole grain bread recipe for the bread machine?

Bella C <3

'm looking for a really good whole grain bread recipe. It MUST be light and fluffy on the inside, I really dont like when bread turns out too dense

Thanks in advance!

Answer
Yes, first link in "sources," but you can get better results if you'll use the bread machine only for the dough. Hear me out.

King Arthur Flour's classic 100% Whole Wheat Sandwich Bread (second link in "sources") is the bread you want, but it's not one you should BAKE in the bread machine. Bread machines don't shape loaves of bread really well, and they can't give you "ovenspring" -- when you put a loaf of proofed dough into a hot oven, the heat makes the yeast go crazy and gives it a very big boost, giving big rise. The bread machine heats gradually, and you don't get as much spring out of it.

You can make this bread using the "dough" cycle on your bread machine, then shape it, let it rise again (proof), and bake it in a hot oven to get really nice results. But if you try to bake this in a bread machine, it won't rise as high, so it will be more dense.

If your schedule or needs require that it bake in the machine, you'll want the first recipe. It won't be as fluffy and light as a loaf that's properly shaped and proofed and put into an already-hot oven, but it'll be tasty.

Answer
Healthy Sandwich Bites

Use an assortment of cookie cutters (or just cut the bread into 4's), white and wheat bread, and the two types of sandwich spreads below to make a plate of healthy sandwich bites.

Roasted Chicken Spread:
Ingredients:
2 roasted chicken breasts, skinless and boneless, cut into small pieces
3 tablespoons light mayonnaise
1/4 cup light cream cheese (fat-free cream cheese can be substituted)

Cheddar Cheese Spread:
Ingredients:
8 ounces reduced-fat sharp cheddar cheese, shredded or grated
8 ounces light or nonfat cream cheese
9 slices special recipe white or whole wheat or cracked wheat bread

Prep:
1. Decide which spread you would like to make. Cut the bread slices into interesting shapes using cookie cutters. Press cookie cutter onto 1 slice of bread at a time. If bread doesn't cut all the way, use a plastic knife to cut around the cookie cutter. Make sure you make two of every shape (to make a sandwich).
2. For chicken spread, add the chicken pieces, mayonnaise, and cream cheese to a food processor. Pulse the food processor until ingredients are blended well and are spreadable.
3. For cheese spread, add grated cheese and cream cheese to food processor. Pulse the food processor until ingredients are blended well and are spreadable.
4. Spread some of the chicken or cheddar cheese spread on one of the bread shapes. Cover with the second piece of bread in the same shape. Repeat with other bread shapes.

One spread recipe makes about 12 mini sandwiches.
